Quiet Time for Admissions

It is now quiet time in our office, a practice that we have done for about 5 years. We will still be taking calls and answering emails, but the admissions counselors will be focused on freshman file reading, and thus will not be able to take calls or visit with students/families that visit our office. They will still be conducting information sessions and they will be talking to guidance counselors, but in order to get decisions by late March, we need to focus on file reading. Our information clerks will still be taking calls and answering emails, but responses may be a little slower as we go along. For more information, please go to the Quiet Time Information page on our website.

I have enjoyed reading the limited number of files I have been able to get to so far, and I look forward to learning more about all our applicants!

Go Dawgs!

  1. Just a quick heads-up. We received about three large bins of mail this morning, most of it dated either 1/20 or 1/21. It will take us a little while to get through it, especially since we are still working on the previous day. Thanks!

  2. Is there anyway for us to tell if you received our updated transcript with fall grades on it- My counselor sent around Jan 6th. Thanks!!

  3. br: Yes, the date will change when the updated transcript comes in. The field in our system for a HS transcript has only the month and year, so all January HS transcripts will show as 1/1/2011.

  4. Hi, I have e-mailed the admissions office about a name issue and they replied they have matched up my item this morning. But right now, the status check still says not received. Should I be concerned?

  5. Anon: The myStatus page is not a live feed, but instead is updated early every business morning. If something was just matched up, then you need to be patient and let the system upload in the early a.m. tomorrow, and then you should see the updates from today.

  6. Dear Sir: My daughter has been accepted into UGA early admission process. However there is a possible situation that came up where she wants to re-transfer back to South Gwinnett HS from Grayson. All her profile will need to be changed and I am not sure if this will affect her status…..or how do we go about changing her profile so that it can be updated in the system. I would appreciate if you can advise me on this before we proceed any further. My daughter has spoken to the school counselor at Grayson and he will in turn talk to the counselors at South to see if she will be able to have all her classes.

My question to you, would this affect her status at UGA?
    Thank you very much.

  7. Concerned Mom: This should not be an issue, as we have a number of students who transfer schools, and since these two are in the same county, there should be only limited issues between schools. Just let us know when she makes the official change (through an email) and we will change it in her file, and she can include anything else that we might need to know. This will not impact her decision.

  8. my new transcript was not ready yet, so my school suggested i send my report card. Is this ok and usable?

  9. Anon: For updated fall grades, we will be fine with a report card.

  10. How long does it normally take to hear back for the graduate admission? I applied for the MAcc program, and I am nervously waiting...
Also, is there any information on the size of the program or the past acceptance rate?

    Thanks so much in advance.

  11. Anon: I do not work for Graduate admissions, so I could not tell you about their process, timelines, etc. I would suggest contacting both Graduate admissions and the specific program.

  12. I have a question is it possibly for me to change my application so that I could start in the summer semester? I already have submitted my application for regural decsion after being defered for early.

  13. When will ya'll be reading the Fall Transfer applications?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anon: Yes, you can change from fall to summer, just send an email to admproc@uga.edu. Please understand that while there is a myth at most colleges (UGA included) that it is easier to be admitted for summer, that is not the case at UGA. Only apply for summer if you want to attend summer.

Anon II: Please see my most recent post for transfers at http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/2010/12/summerfall-2011-transfer-applicants.html for more information.

  15. Any idea when the finalists for the FF/Ramsey scholarships will be announced? Also, how are they notified, i.e., via e-mail, mail or posted on their status page?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anon: I have always said late January for the FF/Ramsey communications (by mail), so I expect you will know shortly.

  17. Thank you so much for always updating this blog. It has been very helpful throughout the admissions process. Also, I was just wondering, does UGA need a Midyear report if we were accepted early action?

  18. Anon: Mid year grades are not needed by Admissions for accepted freshmen.

  19. I had a question regarding transfer admissions. I have applied as a transfer student for Fall 2011 and feel pretty confident about my chances. I am currently a Sophomore at North Georgia College & State University and my GPA is a 3.86 with my core curriculum in line to be finished at the end of this semester.

My current roommate who has expressed that he wants to transfer and live with me, however, only has a 2.81 GPA with less than 60 hours completed (although he will have 60 when this semester ends). My question is this: will he automatically be ineligible for admission due to his GPA? I believe the transfer FAQ said that with less than 60 hours completed before the application deadline the minimum GPA was 3.20 and 2.8 for 60 or more hours. I am unclear as to which minimum GPA would apply for him. He does not have 60 hours yet, but is currently enrolled in course work that would satisfy 60 hours by the time he potentially attended UGA.

Thanks for any help and for continuing to do a great job with this blog. It's very helpful, even for those of us who lurk and read a lot rather than ask a lot of questions.

  20. Anon: The GPA and hours are based on what the student has at the time of the deadline, so if your friend has a 2.81 with less that 60 semester hours by April 1, then things are not looking positive for that person.

  21. That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation and very speedy response!

  22. where can I find information about starting in the summer instead of spring?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anon: If you applied for Spring term and did not enroll, you will need to re-apply. At the end of next week, we will be clearing out the Spring information in our application system (we wait about 3 weeks after the start of the term), and this will enable you to re-apply. If you cannot wait that long, email adm-tech@uga.edu and ask them to clear out your spring application information so you can re-apply for a future term.

  24. I heard that e-mails were sent last week to those selected for the FF/Ramsey scholarships. Is this true?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anon: Any communications that were sent out about the FF/Ramsey weekend are send out by the Honors/FF/Ramsey program, so I cannot say for sure what has been sent out. I have heard that some students have received emails about it, but I cannot verify the situation since our office did not send out any communications about the weekend. I would suggest being patient and waiting for information to be sent to you.

  26. My teacher recommendation and counselor evaluation forms are still missing on myStatus page. I know you said that myStatus is not a live update, but just in case they never show up, when should I call the admissions office to talk about this problem? You mentioned it was "Quiet Time" so I wasn't sure when I should call.

    Thanks and Go Dawgs!

  27. Dylan: It depends on when the items were sent to UGA as to whether you should contact us. If they were sent at the end of last week, then you have not given us 8-10 business days, and we are still working on the last of the mail that came in at the beginning of this week. Wait 8-10 business days, make sure it was sent, and then take the steps to contact us (preferably by email).

  28. Thank you so much! My teacher recommendation is now in on myStatus and I went to see my counselor about my conselor evaluation form today and she said everyone's from my high school weren't showing up and she was working with UGA to fix the problem. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dylan: We are not having any issues on our side as far as the counselor evaluations, so I guess we just need to wait for her to take care of things. The only issue we sometimes see is when the counselor does not select their own name for the form (most schools have several counselors and they will be in a pulldown list), so you might want to alert her to do this.

  30. Will do! Thanks again!

  31. Will there be any way that the admission notification would be out sooner, like how EA was three weeks sooner?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon: I will not know our timeframe for releasing final decisions until I have a better idea of how things are going in the read process, so I cannot answer this question at this time.
