Due to the school closings throughout the Southeast, UGA has (as previously stated) extended the application deadline to January 18, and we are now extending the File Completion deadline to Friday, January 21. This means that the materials that are sent in accompanying an application (transcript, teacher recommendation, school evaluation, part II, etc.) can be postmarked by January 21 and still be fine for UGA Admissions. Remember, the application deadline is still January 18 at 5 p.m. EST. We hope that since a large number of schools will be out on Friday due to icy weather, and then have a national holiday on Monday, the extended File Completion deadline will help everyone out next week.
Have a great day, and Go Dawgs!
My teacher got an e-mail confirming that her recommendation was received but there is still a red X next to it on the myStatus report. Why would this happen?
ReplyDeleteThis blog is so helpful by the way! THANKS!
Anon: Most likely, it is because you have not been patient enough. I am not trying to be insulting, just real. If your teacher submitted the recommendation without an SSN, then we have to hand match it to your file. Since we have only had a few hours to do this so far (we only got back today and only started at 11), you need to be patient and let us match things up.
ReplyDeleteAll: I just spent about 4 hours either matching up online teacher rec's without SSN's with files, opening up mail, and fixing problems with test scores (generally name issues). We are getting in the materials as fast as we can, and we will continue to do so for the next several weeks. Please be patient, tell your teachers and counselors not to fax anything, remind them that admissions offices hate staples, and again, be patient.
ReplyDeletehello mr DGraves...i'm a little confused right now... I made a 590 in reading 610 on math and 610 on writing for the sat but on my application status the individual scores are correct but the total score is printed as 1200.what do you suggest?
ReplyDeleteMy son's teacher has tried twice to submit the recommendation form and it will not except it. I just found out that he is using "Logan" the name my son goes by however his legal first name is Daniel and that is what is on the application. Is this the problem?
ReplyDeleteAnon: We still list the SAT total as the combination of the SAT CR and SAT M, as 1600 is still the standard for a number of people. That is why we list all three components.
ReplyDeleteAnon II: I am not sure if you mean that when the system will not accept it, if it is just not matching up with his file. I am guessing this is the case, and it is definitely due to the teacher not using your son's actual name (and most likely the SSN is not used either). Email admproc@uga.edu, as I am guessing that the recommendation is sitting in our holding file waiting to be matched to Logan, and we will be able to match it with Daniel's file when we know what to look for.
I am a deferred applicant and along with my essays, I am including a few updates to my activities, honors and awards. Is it appropriate to include a scholarship awarded by my second choice college in this section?
ReplyDeleteAnon: In all honesty, showing us a scholarship offer from another college is generally not seen as a positive, as we are more focused on you, not on what another college, which may or may not review files like UGA, thinks of you.
ReplyDeleteJust to be sure, the essays can be turned in before the 21st?
ReplyDeleteMy son was deferred for EA. Now, he is trying to submit his completed application but it is asking him for payment. My understanding was that we did not have to pay a 2nd application fee. Which is the case?
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Anon: I am guessing you are asking can the essays be turned in by Jan. 21, and the answer is yes, although I would not suggest waiting until the last minute.
ReplyDeleteSusan B: If your son was deferred, he should not be starting a new application. He should be doing part II of the application, which is the essays, and there is a link to part II from his status check (see the area that lists the required materials). If he applied by GA411, then he should have already done the essays, but if he has not, he can email them as a single pdf to admproc@uga.edu and we will enter this in as his part II. If he has started a new application, then he is either using a different login from the original application or some other error. There is no second application fee for part II.
I just checked with my son and he says when he went the My Status page it said he was not eligible to do the continue and to start a new appliation. He checked with his HS guidance counselor, who said this was fine and to do that. I really do not want to repay the application fee. Should I call the admissions office Friday morning?
ReplyDeleteSusan B: Did your son apply through GA411, or did he change from EA to RD or RD to EA at some point, or was there anything else unusual about his application process?
ReplyDeleteSusan B.: If your son applied through GA411 and did not do the essays, or had another issue with his application (error with SSN, changed from RD to EA, etc.), he should copy his essays to a Word file, save it as a pdf, and email it to admproc@uga.edu. This will take care of the situation.
ReplyDeleteIf there were no unusual issues, I would suggest sitting with him and have him pull up his myStatus page, and go to the section that shows his materials, such as the SAT, HS transcript, etc. In that section, you will see the part II section and if it is in or not, and a link to the part II option. This is how he would do part II. I hope this helps!
In my online appplication, in the " admission type ", there is a space where I can put my " name called ". I filled in that part before, but now when I came back to that part and wanted to change what I put down, I couldn't ( the space is highlighted in yellow and I can't fill in anything ). How can I chage what I already put down?
ReplyDeleteDGraves, I appreciate all the help you give through this blog.
ReplyDeleteHe did apply through Ga411 for EA but was deferred. Hi HS counselor had him go to the UGA site to complete his Part II for RD.
We will go through the application again Friday am.
Thank you
Tree: On the Dashboard section when you first log into your application, there is a "Settings" option on the left hand side. This is where you can go to change this information.
ReplyDeleteSusan B: Because he did the GA411 application, and the GA411 application had part II (the essays) as a part of the application, he was suppose to already have done the essays. Since I am guessing he did not do them, just have him save them as a pdf and email them to admproc@uga.edu, as this is the only way to now get them into the system. You do not need to review his application, as this is the step he needs to do.
Thank you so much. Logan's teacher resubmitted using "Daniel" and the system didn't reject it however he didn't receive any type of confirmation that it was accepted either. I will email as you suggested to make sure all our bases are covered. Your blog is very helpful. Thank you for your prompt attention.
ReplyDeleteAnon: I have gone to the admproc email account and answered you, but please remember that we cannot begin to match up or check on materials until both the materials are received by UGA and the application are submitted, and your son only submitted the application 2 days ago. Please be patient as we take care of his file.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me if applicants are assigned a specific admissions counselor who will review their file and determine if they are accepted to UGA? Thanks for all your help!
ReplyDeleteUGA'83: Our admissions counselors have specific schools and states that they visit and work with students from these schools/states, but they do not specifically review the files, and they do not determine if a student is accepted. Our admission process is not based on one person making a yes/no decision. Our file reading process, which we are about to start, has multiple reads by different counselors, and then an overall review of all the files and the file reading ratings are done by a small group of people in our office.
ReplyDeleteI was accepted EA and would love to attend Georgia next year in the fall but to do so I need a scholarship. My GPA went up significantly with the addition of my first semester grades. If I wish to be considered for scholarships such as the charter, would it be alright to send in my mid-year transcript and to whom should I send my transcript?
ReplyDeleteAnon: That is fine for you to send us the first semester grades, and just send it to Admissions (see our website for address).
ReplyDeleteI want to submit my application online before 1/18 but I don't have a copy of my transcript to do the section on self reported grades. My school has been closed all week and will be closed on MLK day. My school counselor has already submitted my transcript but I don't have a copy to use to input this information. My concern is that I may not be able to transmit my application by 5:00pm on Tuesday because I am in school all day until 4pm. Is it possible to submit application without this section filled in and then go back in after submission and add this information.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
uga12: Semi-lecture time. Do not wait until the last minute to do things, such as get a copy of your transcript, complete your application, etc., as some drastic situation could occur, such as a power outage, injury, or freak snow storm! Okay, lecture over. Just check the box saying that you are not able to complete the self-reported grades, and we will use your transcript to enter in your grades. We are checking every applicants self-reported grades against the transcript, so it is not a problem, and I would not want you to wait until the last second to submit the application. And you cannot go back after submitting the application and add this, so just mark that you cannot enter the grades, submit the application, and then make sure everything is in on time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for responding and the semi lecture as I have already heard this same thing from my parents. I have been out of the country for 5 weeks for school and have everything ready and was planning to put grades in application this past Monday when returning to school but mother nature took over. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteuga12: I hope your time out of the country went well, and your application will be fine without the self-reported grades.
ReplyDeleteI just selected no for the self reported grades and a message popped up that said you can only select no if you are home schooled or attend an international high school. I just want to make sure it's OK to select no since those do not pertain to me. Also, I have another question -under employment. I am currently employed and plan to stay at my part time job until I start college in August so I have put the end date of aug 2011 - is that OK? Thanks!! This blog is so helpful!
ReplyDeleteJust checking to make sure that it is okay to request my HS transcript through GAcollege411? I was planning on going up to my school to send it but this weather has not allowed me to do so.
ReplyDeleteuga12: Yes, it is fine to check this for the self-reported grades, as long as there is a good reason to do it (I do not want every applicant to do this). As for the employment, that is fine to put an end date of 8/2011.
ReplyDeleteJR: Yes, we are fine with GA411 transcripts, and when I looked this afternoon, we had downloaded over 150 since noon. Please be patient as we drop it into your file though, as we will be having a large amount of materials come in over the next week or so.
DGraves, I know you are very busy, but do you know when the Fellowship/Ramsey scholarship invitees will be notified? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAnon: I have been saying mid to late January, but with the weather issues, I would say late January.
ReplyDeleteOK, but how will the admissions staff that reviews my application know I had good reason to put no on the self reported grades. I don't want that to jeopardize anything. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteuga12: You are over-thinking this, as we are not searching for people who did not enter in the grades and seeing them as bad. This is the first year of self-reported grades, so we have had several students who have not reported them. If you would like, you can put this into the special circumstances section. Really, this is a non-issue.
ReplyDeletethanks for easing my thoughts on the issue! i appreciate your responses and help.
ReplyDeleteHow do I track my application?
ReplyDeleteI sent it through gacollege411.org
I am a deferred early applicant and on my application I put my employment end date as 12/10 because at the time it was not possible for me to put 08/11(the actual date). Do I have to email or call to change this problem on my application?
ReplyDeleteErica S: First, make sure that you give us time to push it into our student system. For GA411 applications, it takes about 3-4 business days. You should receive an email when it goes into our system (and most likely one that tells you more about what to do next as a GA411 applicant). Then, you can go to our myStatus page and start the login process. Be patient, and if you need help, you can email our tech team at adm-tech@uga.edu.
ReplyDeleteAnon: You can send an email to the counselor who works with your state or HS, and they will be able to drop the email into your file. You can go to https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/meet_the_uga_admissions_staff.html for more information on our counseling staff.
Hi DGraves, thank you for your very informative blog!
ReplyDeleteI know it takes time to match everything up. But, I was just wondering if I should be concerned because I sent all my stuff (teacher rec, school rec and transcripts) together and it says that my teacher rec and transcripts are there, but not my school rec. Should I just be more patient or is there any reason for any concern?
Gracie: Just be a little more patient, as when materials come in by mail, we split them up into different document types to scan. While the teacher recommendation and the transcript can then be dropped immediately into your file, we need to enter some information into our system off of the school rec., so it takes a little longer. Please remember that we are off on Monday, so be patient as we get back and through all the materials we are receiving (I spent a great deal of time last night and this morning shifting items into student's files, but we still have a large amount of materials coming in).
ReplyDeleteI submitted my essays yesturday, and on my status it still has an x by the part II essays... should I be concerned, or will it take a couple of days to process my essays?? I just had my finals at my school this week... so it may take a week to process the transcripts!! Should i just send it in when its ready, on an overnight delivery..>??
ReplyDeletehey Mr DGraves...what is the deadline for application fee submission..is it jan 18 or jan 21..have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteIf someone is chosen for the Fellows/Ramsey scholarship, what time does the weekend interviews start and end? Also, does the university reimburse for the travel fees if selected?
ReplyDeleteAnon I: Both applications and part II's have to be pushed into the system by us to show up on the myStatus page, so it is not going to show up instantly. Be patient, and it should show up Tuesday or Wednesday, the first business days we are back in the office. As for your updated transcript, just have the school send them when they are ready, and I do not suggest overnight delivery!
ReplyDeleteAnon II: Re-read the post, as it says "Remember, the application deadline is still January 18 at 5 p.m. EST.". The deadline for supporting materials is Jan. 21.
Anon III: I would suggest waiting for a response from the FF/Ramsey program, as it will have details on the exact time things start on the Friday of the weekend, and you can ask about other issues if invited.
Is it true there is a period of admissions around the end of February?
ReplyDeleteEverything has been submitted to you except the counselor's recommenation form and the transcript. I submitted a transcript request in plenty of time, but the counselor said they were behind in getting them out. Then the ice storm came. I'm still not sure if you will get them by January 21 (the extended deadline). If you don't get them by January 21, will my application not be considered?
ReplyDeleteAnon: Yes, in late February we will review all of the RD applicants and deferred EA applicants to see if they meet Early Action admission standards (based on their academic information), and if they do, then we will admit them. Generally, these are mostly RD applicants, as the deferred EA students did not meet EA admission standards in December, so they would need to have increased their SAT/ACT scores to higher level. All other decisions will be released in late March.
ReplyDeleteAnon: Remember, our deadlines are postmarked deadlines, and we want to complete your file, so they are sent out close to that deadline, then you should be fine. Make sure to track things on your myStatus page, and be patient with us.
Does the UGA office add documents to files over the weekend or only on the weekdays?Like, if my counselor submitted my recommendation online on Friday when would it show up on the my status page?
ReplyDeleteAnon: I have been working some over the weekend to get us caught up (with limited success), but we generally only update the myStatus page on business days. So if your counselor submitted their form on Friday, then be patient and it should most likely show up on Tuesday (Monday is a national holiday) or Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteOh Okay. Thank you very much for your quick response, this blog is very helpful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your suggestion regarding my son's coursework. We welcome any advice you might have.
ReplyDeleteAfter submitting my application I was able to print it out and take a look at it. I noticed that on the leadership and activity record page my school and community activities were not set up exactly like the example that was given. Can I resubmit this part of my application and send it as a single pdf file to admproc@uga.edu? Would it replace the current page in my application? If so, do I scan the actual page from the application? It has your full name and date of birth at the top of the page. Would any other additional information be needed? Thank you so much for your assistance!
ReplyDeleteAnon: The leadership and activity records do not need to be set up exactly as the example shows, so I would not be worried about this. We cannot deleted and then replace a page of your application, and my suggestion if you absolutely need to have this in your file in a different way is to send a resume in pdf format to admproc@uga.edu. It is generally better than trying to redo a page, although I am guessing you most likely do not need to do this.
ReplyDeleteI want to send my first semester transcript in and they were supposed to come out the 14th. But we were out for this whole week so the earliest day i can request my transcript is the 18th. It'll also take 24 hours to receive it, so i don't know if my transcript will be there by the 21st if i send it by the 19th. I can't send my transcript through GA411 because the system didn't have my social security until last semester.
ReplyDeleteSo what should i do? *
ReplyDeleteAnon: The extended deadline for materials is a Postmarked deadline, so just have your counselor put it in the mail this week, as it will then be postmarked by the 21st. In addition, we will be taking updated transcripts through Feb. 1, so you should be fine.
ReplyDeleteI read that you will be reviewing/awarding out of state waivers from December through April, but I was wondering if there are any factors that determine who is awarded first - i.e. if more qaulified/desirable applicants receive the waivers before others? Although I have not received one, I have several friends who have received theirs. I know you are very busy, but thanks in advance for your help.
ReplyDeleteAnon: The process is similar to how we have an EA admission process, and we admit a group that has strong academic performance (based on grades, rigor and test scores), we have a group of those admitted who are extremely strong in these areas and we offer early scholarship awards to these.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the advice on the leadership and activity records page! If you would like to mail supplemental material to be placed in your file, does the material get placed right in your file or is it all scanned? I have read on the blog that the admissions office would prefer to have material in a simple folder with no staples. I want to thank you once again for taking the time to help everyone on the blog. This is such a great resource!
ReplyDeleteHi DGraves sorry this might be a little bit redundant but I was just wondering if the essays were due tomorrow (Jan 18th) or Jan 21st? I was deferred and want a mentor to reread my essays before I submit them. Sorry if this is overkill, and thank you so much for this blog and everything you do!!
ReplyDeleteI got deferred from EA and I just had my teacher read over my essays today. Once I finished my part 2 of the application, I pressed the submit application button. Do I have to pay for the second part of the application? It didn't ask me and it just took me back to the dashboard.
ReplyDeleteUnder the heading "First Year Application Part 2" it says part two was completed.
Anon: Any admissions file is an electronic file, and any paper documents are scanned and then dropped into that student's file. That is why I usually suggest emailing a pdf attachment, so it can just be dropped directly into the file without even having to scan it. And yes, we do not like staples!
ReplyDeleteAnon II: For deferred students, part II of the application is due on Jan. 21, but I would not wait that late to do it, as I suggest never trying to hit a deadline, but to get things in before the deadline. Jan. 18 is the deadline for any RD applications to be submitted.
Anon III: There is no additional fee for part II, as you have already paid the application fee when you initially applied EA, and that goes for the entire application cycle. On the myStatus page, it should show that your application fee has been paid already.
If you have completed the Part 2 of the Admission and press the submit button today and see a red x next to the part 2 admission on the myStatus page, does that mean it still needs to be processed?
ReplyDeleteAnon: Since UGA, and the Admissions office, is closed today for MLK day, then any item submitted today will be pushed into the system tomorrow morning, and will show up on the myStatus page either late tomorrow or early Wednesday. Please be patient with our office.
ReplyDeleteSince the applications are due today and the essays can be postmarked by January 21, does it need to be noted on application that the essays will follow, or will it be assumed?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Dawg Fan: First, I have stated that for students who are deferred and are doing part II, these essays are due on Friday, Jan. 21. If you are an RD applicant, the essays are a part of the application, so you should have them complete by today. If you are unable to do this, I would put in the essays "see essays submitted separately" and send them in separately, but don't you think you are cutting it sort of close? As I have done before, here is a mini-lecture: It is the day of the extended deadline, and you are only now checking on this, and you are wanting to delay things even more. This does not sound like you are very prepared, which does not look good in my eyes. Okay, lecture over. See above and take the appropriate steps.
ReplyDeleteI was about to submit my application when all of a sudden, the system logged me off! When I logged back in, my application was not on the home page! What do I do?!?!?
ReplyDeleteI know that the deadline for last semesters transcript is feb. 1, but i talked to my counselor today and because of the weather my school is a week behind. The new transcripts are not ready and they are not sure when they will be. They said it might be the beg. of february, which is too late. What should I do?
ReplyDeleteAnon I: You are emailing this blog 28 minutes before the deadline hits. If you have been following this blog at all, you know that I have said again and again, do not wait until the deadline in case something happens! There is no way that I can go in with no knowledge of you and your details to try and fix this in 14 minutes (the time that I actually have as I am not looking at responses every second).
ReplyDeleteMy best suggestion is to log back in to see what the situation is, refresh the page if need be, etc. If you are on our site, we may be able to help tomorrow. If you are on GA411, we have no control of the backend of that site, so I cannot tell you what to do. The email for our tech team is adm-tech@uga.edu, but since you waited this late, be patient with us.
Anon II: When the transcript is available, have your school send it in, and we will put it with your file. That is the best we can do.
The page re-loaded at the last minute and I was able to pay and submit the application, but on the hub it said that it was submitted at 5:02... :/
ReplyDeleteAnon: 5:02 will be just fine (due to a few calls we are holding it open a little while longer), and the application should be pushed into our system tonight. You should be able to go to the myStatus page in the next few days, but be patient as we match up materials.
ReplyDeleteI submitted my application. I just have a question. I used a sentence from a song and put it in my essay D. I quoted that lyric, but when I upload the essay, the page said that I cannot go on if I do not take the apostrophes out. I took them out. Will my essays be considered as plagiarism ?
ReplyDeleteSorry for asking these kind of questions as a time like this.
Tree: We will not treat this as plagiarism, as we understand that songs will be quoted, and that sometimes some characters have problems, especially when cutting and pasting from Word. You will be fine.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter tried to submit her application from another computer and she got the message that she did not have permission to view the application. Shge was at school. is there anything else she can do to get her application submitted?
ReplyDeletethe youth of this generation speaks in an arguably shallow diction so i apologize if this causes offence.
ReplyDeletein todays teen culture it is actually an extremely positive comment to be called the shit
you, dgraves, are the shit
I submitted my RD application on January 13th and I also paid and printed out a receipt but when I log back in it says payment required. Is it saying this because I just submitted my application? Thank You.
ReplyDeleteMy teacher wrote a letter or recommendation for me but I was wondering if I still had to he/she still had to complete the Teacher Evaluation?
ReplyDeleteIn regards to sending first semster grades along with the transcript, I am having issues. My counselor says the county is having problems (due to the weather) and the transcript will not be ready by the 21st. However, they will send the transcripts with first semester grades ASAP along with a letter explaining the situation. Is there anything I should do?
ReplyDeleteAnon I: Tell her to go back in tonight and submit it (and know that the credit card option shuts down at 9:30 pm EST), as we will hold the application open until early tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteAnon II: Thanks! I have never been called that before, at least not in a positive way!
asdf: I could not say what the situation is with the payment, as I cannot see your situation. If you paid by credit card, then it should show up shortly. If you are paying by check or fee waiver, then make sure that is sent in and be patient as we process these fees.
Anon III: What they are going to do is the best possible option, so go with that.
DGraves-
ReplyDeleteI have submitted my Regular Decision Application on the deadline with my essays. While submitting my essays apostrophes and quotes would not take in the application box. I spoke with a UGA student that was admitted in 2o10 and she said "you'll be fine, some of my punctuation didn't take either." Well, come to find out some of my friends got the punctuation marks to work. Now I am panicked my essays will be scrutinized for the lacking of correct punctuation, when my original documents from Microsoft Word have the correct punctuation. PLEASE HELP ME! I am EXTREMELY WORRIED right now. Should I contact my admissions counselor and offer to send in the hard copies to the admissions office? Should I take a trip to Athens to deliver the essays myself? I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO, and UGA acceptance means the world and more to me. ADVICEEEEE!
Thanks,
Frantic & Panicked
Frantic and Panicked: Do not be frantic or panicked, as we understand that some punctuation marks have issues due to the cut and paste from Microsoft Word, and the oddities of Word's formatting causing issues. We are very used to this, so do not be worried. Just let the essays be, and make sure the supporting materials get in.
ReplyDeleteYou're the absolute most wonderful person ever! Thank you!
ReplyDelete-Frantic & Panicked
I have already submitted my regular decision application, is there any way I could update my file with an award I have recieved since, like an email so I can update my information? And I would also like to send in my first semester grades, as I am a deferred EA applicant who took 2 AP classes in the fall and got A's in both, so this could help me in both the rigor and GPA area, but my counselor told me they didn't update the transcripts with first semester grades on GACollege411 yet due to the weather, so they couldn't be sent yet. They should be avaliable by the 21st but I am not 100% they will be. What should I do about this?
ReplyDeleteFrantic: No problem!
ReplyDeleteAnon: You can send in a pdf attachment of updated information to admproc@uga.edu. As for the transcript, we are fine to receive an updated transcript that shows fall work by Feb. 1, so you should be fine.
Mr. Graves,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your hard work updating us with information. My daughter had to wait until today to get last semester's grades so she could submit her application. When she went to GaCollege411, the website was down for over an hour. Desparate, she decided to start all over at the UGA website. The website server kept saying it was unable to save the last information, so she kept having to login multiple times. Finally it refused to accept her password. After asking for a new password, we waited for over an hour to receive it in our email at 5:55 pm. She was heartbroken until we read your blog saying the website would be open until early tomorrow morning. We have submitted, now thanks to you.
Rick: I am glad it finally worked out for you, and I am sorry you had so many challenges. I have been told that the GA411 site is back up, but I had issues getting into the UGA access area as well. As you can see, deadlines are somewhat hectic, and that is why I generally tell students to get things in much earlier than the deadline if possible (not your case).
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your help! :)
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway the 5 o'clock deadline is going to be extended for applications due on the January 18 due to weather and gacollege411 issues?
ReplyDeleteAnon: As I have said in an above response, we will be keeping the application open until early tomorrow morning (I would suggest submitting it tonight though). But remember, the 18th was an extension due to the weather.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Graves,
ReplyDeleteIn reading a response that you posted yesterday evening regarding early scholarships that have been offered to a few select students, I was just concerned that I haven't heard anything yet and I'm an out of state student that's applied for the FF/Bernard Ramsey scholarships. Are the scholarships that have been offered other types of scholarships? If so, do you know when the notification letters will be mailed for FF? If you are not selected for FF, are other scholarships possibly offered? Thank you for your help.
I've tried submitting it but it won't accept my application. It keeps saying that the term I requested is closed.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteSince I can't get my application submitted successfully through the ga411 website, should I send through the UGA online admissions? Will it matter? My understanding is the deadline is tomorrow.
My teacher wrote a letter or recommendation for me but I was wondering if I still had to he/she still had to complete the Teacher Evaluation?
ReplyDeleteAnon: If you have applied for the FF/Ramsey program, then be patient, as we are reviewing these files and I expect that information will be sent out in late January about this program. The other scholarships that have been offered are other ones, such as the Charter scholarship, One UGA, etc., and we will be reviewing for these through mid-April. Be patient.
ReplyDeleteAnon II: You need to review your application and work with adm-tech@uga.edu, as they will be back in the morning and can look at the back-end. This is what happens when you wait until the last minute.
Anon III: I have been told that the GA411 application is up and working, so I would suggest you continue to try it. If you want, you can enter in the data tonight on our application and submit it, but we are shutting down the application in the early morning tomorrow, so I would do it tonight.
asdf: No, they do not need to do the form if they have sent in a teacher rec. letter.
Hey DGraves :D
ReplyDeleteMe and my friends have read your post regarding one of the best essays you have read. You have said that it's less than 30 words and made you laugh for 5 minutes straight. We are just dyeing to read the essay (:
can a person bribe the admissions office to get accepted?
ReplyDeleteD. Graves - you are the absolute best! Thank you for all you do --- may you rest well tonight knowing that you have given each applicant 110%. God bless you and God bless Georgia!
ReplyDeleteAnon: Sorry, but I have been reading so many of this year's essays that I cannot remember it right now. If other essays from this year are strong/funny/great and I get the author's permission, I will share them.
ReplyDeleteasdf: I can remember two bribe attempts by parents over the last ten years, and both of the situations did not end up well for the parents.
Anon II: Thanks!
I am a North Carolina Student and based on the schools closing we will not have transcripts until Feb. They aren't even printing report cards until Feb. 2nd and I'm not sure when they will run GPA/Class Rank.
ReplyDeleteAnon: I hope you mean that they will not have updated transcripts, as they should be able to at least send us a transcript with the first 3 years on it. Just have them send one now, and then an updated one with fall grades when they can. We do not look at the GPA on a transcript, and the rank is not really that important to us (and we would have that from the school evaluation anyway).
ReplyDeleteHow many applicants are their in regular decision for this year?
ReplyDeletewhat kind of screen is supposed to show up after I have completed the payment for the application?
ReplyDeleteAnon: I do not have exact numbers yet, but it will be somewhere between 7,000 and 7,500 RD applicants (an estimate!).
ReplyDeleteasdf: On the myStatus page, where you see what materials have been received by UGA, you will see the application fee and an indication of whether we have received it or not (red X or green check).
My school recently changed the schedule this year... last year we were on a semester schedule so I would have been able to send in updated transcripts!!! ..but this year my school is on the yearly schedule (take the same classes for a year and get the official transcript in may!!) BUT we recently finished with 9weeks exams and all that.. my grades for my classes are in for this half of the year>>> but i asked my councelor and he says he cnt send in "official transcripts" :/ sooo what should i do??? I would REALLY like to show UGA that i ahve worked hard so far, and to show my improvement..! can i just send in my grades so far... if so then how can i do this..through my councelor? or just mail it....
ReplyDelete^^^ oh and i am a deferred early applicant :/ i just want UGA to see my updated grades....
ReplyDeletewhen i log into my dashbord it says first year application. i have paid and everything what do i do now?
ReplyDeleteAnon: Just have your counselor send in a the fall term grade report if possible, or send us an email (send it to the counselor for your area) with this information.
ReplyDeleteblah: I would need more information, such as when you applied, what steps you took, etc.
I was not able to click the submit button due to technical issues but I have completed everything except for 1 essay so I have just emailed that in. was wondering would my application still be excepted. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteParth: Seriously? We gave you two extended deadlines and you still could not get it submitted on time? My best suggestion is to email our tech team at adm-tech@uga.edu and see if they can help with this issue, but I expect more from UGA applicants. Okay, enough lecturing, contact the above email.
ReplyDeleteI am a dual enrollment student and my UGA application is complete. I had my most recent transcript with my first semester grades sent, however, one of my grades was reported incorrectly. My professor was apologetic and has submitted a grade change. I have been waiting on the grade change to go through to submit an accurate transcript. I have visited the registrar to have the process expedited. My professor has said he will provide documentation if needed. Will you accept this grade change after the application deadline? Thank you
ReplyDeleteAnon: We are fine with a grade change, and the prof. can also send in a note of explanation to us.
ReplyDeletewhen i log into the uga account it does not say what materials i the admissions office has received and what they have not received. what should i do?
ReplyDeletekap: When you go to the myStatus page and log in, it should say Dashboard at the top and Welcome kap (or whatever your name happens to be). One of the options on that page is "Check your Application Status". Go into that and you will be able to see the information on your application.
ReplyDeletei cannot see the "check your application status thing" and i have paid and everything.
ReplyDeletekap: First, you need to give me a little more to go on. When did you apply? Are you applying as a freshman or a transfer? Did you apply through our site or GA411? What do you see when you go to the Dashboard page?
ReplyDeleteI am a student from North Carolina that was differed from early admission. I wish to send my first semester grades, but they will not be available until after the deadline. Will this be a problem
ReplyDeleteI applied on january 13th. I even have the receipt that I printed off when i paid the application fee. I am a freshman applying for Regular Decision. And I applied through the UGA website. The message I see when i log into dashboard is "Your Applications" "First Year Application (Currently Closed)"
ReplyDeleteToday, I talked to a lady at the Office of Admissions because my transcript and application fee were shown as "not received" when both were mailed already, and we sorted out why it showed up like that; she told me that my application is now complete, but I just checked my status , and the "x" marks are still there. Is there a certain reason why it's like that, or should I wait for a while?
ReplyDeleteThere were some errors with my essay, and I have sent them a pdf of the correct version. But I am curious as to what they do to the original version? Also, will they look at my additional information still? I don't want them to ignore my part 2 altogether.
ReplyDeleteAnon I: Go ahead and send the transcript in when you can, but I cannot say if we will be able to review it when we read your file, as it all depends on when it gets here and when we look at your file.
ReplyDeletekap: What do you see when you scroll down below the "Your Applications" section? Look at the whole page.
Anon II: The myStatus check is not live, but is updated early in the am every business day. So if we input the materials in today, it will not show up until tomorrow morning.
Anon III: The pdf of your application stays the same, but we then add additional materials into your file, and yes, we look at all of that material. We will not ignore it.
For the admissions round in February, will ya'll only look at ACT/SAT scores or updated academic information from EA hopefuls?
ReplyDeleteWhen I scroll down it says "First Year Application (Currently Closed" and beside it there is a link that says "view message" and when i click the view message link it says "The First Year online application is currently closed."
ReplyDeleteUGA93: Do you mean will we look at only updated test scores, or updated transcripts as well? With over 10,000 possible updated transcripts, we are not able to re-review them for the February round (not enough time!), but we will look at them in our file reading process.
ReplyDeletekap: I do not think we are connecting and on the same page (figuratively), so please email admproc@uga.edu, give your full name, birthdate, and that you had a question that could not be answered on the blog (and that the questions were posed by kap).
ReplyDeleteVery understandable! So if my SAT/ACT scores have not changed since EA I should not be expecting a decision in Feb.? Patience is the key when applying to college I have learned!
ReplyDeleteIn the application process, how much are community service and school activities weighed? If I meet all criteria expect my ACT score (I am one point below average) but I have tons of community service and school involvement is there a chance I will get in, even though I do not meet ALL requirements?
ReplyDeleteUGA93: I have been preaching patience all through this blog!
ReplyDeleteAnon: First, there are no specific "criteria". There are mid-ranges, but these are not criteria. So there is are no "ALL requirements" to meet. As well, there is no way to say how much one area will count, as we are looking at the whole and how everything comes together, and then looking at you in comparison with the rest of the applicant pool. You are not being compared to a bar that is set, but instead being compared to the entire applicant pool, of which I cannot say what they look like right now.
Thank you very much DGraves! April 1 isn't THAT far away!
ReplyDeleteCan we still pay the application fee this evening? I submitted my application a while ago but my father (who has the family credit card) was out of town.
ReplyDeleteLHS: If you submitted it without payment, then you selected the "pay by check or fee waiver" option. As such, you need to send in a check, money order or fee waiver. There is no way to go back in and do it by credit card now that you have submitted it and indicated check/fee waiver. I would suggest putting a check or money order in the mail today.
ReplyDeleteYes sir, should I just put my name in the "memo" section so the they could match it to my application? Or what information do you use to match the two. Thank you so much! Go Dawgs!
ReplyDeleteLHS: If you did not print out the page for the check/fee wavier option after you applied, then you can just write a short note with your full name and birthdate on it and put it in the envelope as well.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty, I don't remember there being a page to print or even choosing that option. After I submitted it the site said I could logout and pay later. On my dashboard it said (Payment Required) next to "First Year Application" now it says (Currently Closed). Can I still send the check regardless? And I sent my previous materials to the Contact Address (Office of Undergraduate Admissions
ReplyDeleteTerrell Hall
The University of Georgia
Athens GA 30602-1633) will my transcript still get there?
LHS: If you did not indicate a payment option, then you did not submit the application. Please email adm-tech@uga.edu and ask if they can push your application through as a "pay by check" payment option. The application stated that the payment option needed to be selected as part of the actual application process.
ReplyDeleteLHS: And the address is correct, and if/when we have your application pushed in, we will be able to check on your materials.
ReplyDeleteThat "if" in your response is scaring me, haha. Is it likely my application will be pushed through. Thank you for answering all of my questions.
ReplyDeleteWill students who applied for EA and deferred recieve their information of RA earlier? What are the estimated dates for informing those who were accepted?
ReplyDeleteThank You
LHS: I hope it is fine.
ReplyDeleteZach: No, deferred students and RD students are treated the same. As I have said in other comments:
"In late February we will review all of the RD applicants and deferred EA applicants to see if they meet Early Action admission standards (based on their academic information), and if they do, then we will admit them. Generally, these are mostly RD applicants, as the deferred EA students did not meet EA admission standards in December, so they would need to have increased their SAT/ACT scores to higher level. All other decisions will be released in late March."
They were able to push my application through and I just took my check to the post office. Thank you so much for the blog! I feel confident about my application, so god-willing I'll be there next year! God bless you, DGraves!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that!
ReplyDeleteI have sent in my transcript on January 18th and my teacher recommendation form on January 19th. Will that affect anything or is that good?
ReplyDeletekap: The postmarked deadline (when it was sent out in the mail) was today, 1/21, so this is fine. As well, since I did not see an email from you, I assume that you were able to finally see your myStatus page.
