The post mark application deadline is Monday, November 15 for the Foundation Fellowship and Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship application. We realize that many students will be starting, completing and submitting the application over the weekend and may be in a bit of a panic over the submission of supporting documents.

We will continue to take supporting documents during the next few days after the deadline. Please be aware that we do not accept any faxed documents and all mailed documents should be sent to the address below.

Anon: Because your school does not have a high school code (I am assuming your are a home educated student), have them go to https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/printable_forms.html, complete the forms, and send them in this way.

ReplyDeleteI have an urgent question. The only GPA that my school provides on my transcript is my weighted GPA, which exceeds a 4.0. The Foundation Fellowship application asks for my Unweighted GPA. What should I do?
Anon I: The counselor form and letter you sent in for the EA application should suffice for the FF/Ramsey application.
ReplyDeleteAnon II: Look at your transcript and calculate your own GPA. Use just core classes (English, math, etc.), and an A is a 4.0, a B is a 3.0, etc. UGA will not hunt you down if your GPA is slightly off from what is actual, so just do your best at calculating it.

Okay I just remembered I put in my weighted GPA just to have a filler until I completed the rest of my app, then go back to fix it once I heard an answer from you. Turns out, I submitted my app without realizing it. I don't quite remember, but now I have either a blank space or a "4.58" under Unweighted GPA. I really don't want this to affect my application. Is there a number or email I can contact to clear this up?

Anon I: Since college.mychances.net has no connection to an actual college admissions office, the people who run it have no college or high school counseling backgrounds, and it goes off of limited data, I would not trust it at all.

DGraves, You seem to be answering posts pretty quickly. As luck would have it, our internet is down since yesterday. Is there a pdf of the Foundation Scholarship? I thought that it might be easier to print one out, fill it out at home and then come back to the borrowed computer. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnon: There is not a printable FF/Ramsey application, but there are two things that will make life a little easier. You can upload a resume from your computer (it must be in pdf format), and the two essay questions are as follows;
ReplyDeleteIf you could examine whatever you wanted for one year using methods of your choice, how would you direct your efforts and what would you hope to accomplish?
Psychologist Howard Gardner has identified nine types of intelligences: linguistic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, naturalist, and existential. Choose one that you identify with and discuss a few personal experiences that show your strength and/or weakness in this area of intelligence.
I hope this helps, at least with the more challenging part of the FF application.
The UGA FF site says counselors and teachers should "submit a detailed and thorough letter of recommendation."
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean my counselor and my teacher must send in an additional letter, along with the admission evaluation? If so, is there a link that allows the counselor and teacher to do so? My teacher has already completed the admissions form, and is asking me where to direct her for this "detailed letter."

why did self reporting grades on the EA app use letter grades? Does that mean an 89 is basically the same as an 80?
ReplyDeleteAnon: If your counselor and your teacher submitted an online form through UGA, there was space to write their "letter". If they feel they want to add more, they can always go into the same site as before and submit another form through the same process.
ReplyDeletelola: In the calculation of a GPA, a B is a B, so an 80 and an 89 would be the same (if that is what is a B in your school's grading system). But in a detailed holistic file reading, we do look at "low" vs. "high" grades, especially if we see a trend.
For my peer recommendation for the Foundation scholarship application, my peer is getting "page not found" when trying to submit. If it does not work tomorrow, should I have them email it to the admissions office?
ReplyDeleteAnon: I have not seen any issues with the peer rec., but if your peer is having issues, have them email the letter to admissions and state that it is a peer rec. for the FF/Ramsey program, and have them list your name.

ReplyDeleteAnon: Please remember what I always say about rumors; Run away as quickly as possible from the person telling it! UGA has not even decided who to admit yet for EA, so there have not been any EA offers of admission yet!
ReplyDeleteIf my ACT scores are not updated on the MyStatus Page should I be alarmed, or should I give it a few more days?
ReplyDeleteAnon: If these are Oct. ACT scores, I would not panic, as we are receiving batches of the scores starting last Friday and most likely for a few more days. If these are earlier test dates, I would check with the ACT to make sure they were sent. As well, check and see if your name and SSN on the ACT match what you put on the application, and if not, email admproc@uga.edu to alert us to this issue so we can try to manually match the test scores.

ReplyDeleteLBK: The other scholarships listed use the UGA admissions application in determining these scholarship recipients, so there are no additional scholarship forms for these.

ReplyDeleteAnon: We are happy to accept emailed resume's, as they come through clean and neat. The problem with faxes is that they are many times shadowed, distorted, and unreadable. He should be fine, so do not worry about mailing it or calling (we get a lot of email attachments and drop them right into a student's imaged file).

For Honors questions, I would suggest contacting the Honors program, as they can best answer your questions about their issues.

ReplyDeleteVince: I am not sure what you are exactly talking about (I think you may be merging two things together), but the priority admissions application deadline for the Honors program and for freshman scholarships is Dec. 15 for the following summer and fall (priority means we will still look at applications that are submitted later, but priority goes to Dec. 15 and before apps).

Dear DGraves --- I know you've answered this - Teacher Recommendation Forms and Counselor Recommendation Forms should show up as "received" on the myStatus page. The Teacher and Counselor have received the confirmation. It's been 2 weeks and it is still not showing up. These were submitted for the FF/Bernard Ramsey Scholarship. What is the next step for a concerned parent?

Mike: Some things depend on when your student applied to UGA (I am talking about the admissions application, not the FF/Ramsey app). Since you did not get an email about the blog (and it went to parents, not students), then I am guessing that she applied after I pulled the list of emails, which happened at the end of last week. I am guessing that she then applied very recently, and thus please remember that it takes a little while from the date of her applying to match up the documents. If the materials arrive at UGA and there is no application to match things to, it does not instantly match up things, as this must be done by hand while working with a large number of applicants. I would suggest being patient.

ReplyDeleteAnon: If a student is below the SAT or ACT requirements for the FF/Ramsey, the file will still be reviewed, but since almost everyone else who applies is above this range, it does put this student at a disadvantage overall.

ReplyDeleteMy son has applied for the FF/Ramsey scholarship and when reviewing his unofficial transcript recently realized that the transcript is missing a class he is taking (Calculus BC)currently. They have listed it as an open period instead of the class itself. He does not need this credit to graduate and is taking it as an independent study. He is concerned as he listed this as a class he was taking this semester and it does not show. Will this be a problem? Thank you for your time.

ReplyDeleteAnon: I do not have a specific date, so I would suggest that the teacher attach a pdf of the recommendation to an email, sent to cboyles@uga.edu. I also know that we imported a number of teacher rec's today from the online teacher rec form, so it may have come in today.
ReplyDeleteI think we may have made a huge error. My son applied by the November 15 deadline in order to be considered for the scholarships. We sent all of the required documents (transcript, letter of recommendation, etc.) to the FF/Ramsey address. When looking at his status, it is noted that these items are missing from his file. Did we send these documents to the wrong place?
ReplyDeleteAnon: For the past several days, we have stopped entering in any admission documents in preparation for the Early Action decision release date, which occurred today. We will start loading in materials starting Monday. Give us a few days to catch up, and you can also email the contact person for the FF/Ramsey application, Cindy Crawford, about your son's materials.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the Benard and Foundation paperwork due before students even know if they have been accepted into UGA or UGA Honors. Just wondering, it seems a little backwards.
ReplyDeleteAnon: Because we need time to read the files and select students to invite to the program, and it takes a while to do through this. In addition, the FF/Ramsey process is different from the other two, so there are no exact overlaps.
ReplyDeleteMy son applied for the FF/Ramsey scholarships and in checking on his status, we noted that his counselor has not submitted the counselor form necessary. His counselor is brand new this year, having come from a junior high school (the counselors are assigned by last name) and is "less than helpful" to the seniors in her alphabet. We are trying to have another counselor take care of this today, however, are now worried that this will not be accepted for the scholarship committee as it is late. Please advise so I can prepare my son for what may be a huge disappointment. He is a strong candidate, graduating 1 in his class, having scored a 33 on his ACT and having taken the hardest curriculum offered in his school. Thank you for your time.
ReplyDeleteAnon Mom: After having about 5 days of not entering in materials due to the EA decisions going out, we are now putting in the materials we had on hold. It may be that your counselor did send it just a short while ago, and we are now entering it in. I would suggest your son talk to his counselor and make sure she submitted it, and if so, be patient, as we will then use it. If she has not, have her do it ASAP and email it to cboyles@uga.edu .
