October SAT Scores Are In!

We received the October SAT scores late yesterday, and we were able to download them into our system this morning. We just updated the myStatus page about an hour ago to show any updated/new scores. We will be running checks next week for any applicants who submitted October SAT's but there are differences between their application information and their test score information that causes a matching problem (no SSN on the SAT, different name such as Bill instead of William, birthdate error, etc.).

We are also caught up with the mail, so anything that is not showing up as received on the myStatus page should be checked on with the person that is suppose to be sending it, such as your counselor or high school registrar.

Have a great weekend, enjoy some  Halloween candy, and Go Dawgs down in Jacksonville!

  1. I have already applied early action and just took the October SAT. To my disappointment, I scored lower. I feel strongly that I can score much higher, however if I take it again it would be my fourth attempt. So my question is, does the admissions office care how many times you take the test or just the scores you earn?

  2. Anon: UGA looks only at your highest subscores, so it is not a negative issue if you take the SAT or ACT multiple times. We are looking at the results, not how many times you took the exam.

  3. Good evening DGraves,
I applied EA and my counselor told me that my personal health difficulties during my freshman year of high school qualified me for the "special circumstances" part of the application. I did fill out that section, in brief due to the 300 word limit, to make it known to those who will be reading my file. I was wondering if you could explain how this part of the application is reviewed and how it will be taken into consideration during the review process for EA as my gpa was at the lower end of the mid-50% but my standardized test scores and rigor were at the higher end of the mid-50%. I have looked through the blog, but have found no information on it. I'm not sure how exactly it will play a role, or be viewed in my file review? Thank you in advanced.

p.s. Thank you for the blog as it has made the process much easier.

  4. Hopeful Dawg: During Early Action, our focus is primarily on the academic side of things. There are a small group of students where we look more closely at other issues, and that is when a student has a conduct issue or they are on the borderline of being denied based upon their academics. At that point, we would look in greater detail at their overall situation to try and understand what occurred, and then determine if they should be admitted, deferred or denied. As you can guess, the students on the borderline of being denied based upon academics would just have a decision of either denial or defer (if we wanted to see even more information before a final decision).

It is only in our holistic review process in the January to March time period where we would really have enough time to look at everything in a applicant's file.

  5. How can I determine whether UGA has received my AP scores? I am a homeschooled student and was told here that I need to have an AP or SAT subject score in each area to demonstrate the rigor of my curriculum. If I understand this correctly, this means I need to have my scores in in time for the EA decision. When I called College Board they told me that the scores were sent, but when I emailed UGA admissions they said they did not see them in my file. What should I do at this point?

  6. Anon: First, it depends on when you requested the AP scores to be sent as to when we receive them. many times, College Board will be able to tell you when you requested scores, and occasionally when they were sent, but only the college can say when we received them. Send an email to admproc@uga.edu and we will research the issue.

  7. My October 2010 scores were released by College Board on Tuesday, Novermber 2 instead of with the earlier group last week(apparently, this happens to some 15% of SAT takers). Does this late posting by College Board affect my UGA early application in any way?

  8. Anon: In other words, your Oct. SAT scores were released today. Since we are still waiting on the October ACT scores (and that could be 10+ days more before we get those), I would expect that your SAT scores will be received by UGA shortly, and they will be fine for EA.

  9. About what percent-ish of Deferred students are accepted would you say?

  10. I have heard that there is a chance of decisions being decided before thanksgiving? Is that likely or should we count on December 15? Also, how many are being admitted this year? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anon I: Last year, slightly under 50% of the deferred students who then completed part II were admitted during the final decision process. I mention the "completed part II" part because every year, about 1,000+ EA applicants do not complete part II (the essays). You can't be considered for admission if you take yourself out of the running!

Anon II: As I said in an early post, I do not see us going out with decisions before Thanksgiving, but I do believe it will be earlier than the 15th. I will post an update when I know more. I have no idea how many students will be admitted for EA at this time.

  12. I have seen posts that have referred to receiving emails from UGA. I am an EA applicant and have never received an email. My status page is current and everything is recorded. My question(s): (a) Should I be receiving any emails, and if so (b) am I supposed to be signed up to a special UGA email account, or (c) will any email come to the registration email address I used? Just want to be sure my email account is not putting them in "Junk" folder.
    Thank you!

  13. Concerned: Generally, there are a few different emails that go out. There is the initial email when setting up your application, the "your file is incomplete" email(s), and the wide range of recruitment emails that go out. I am surprised that you did not get the first one, not surprised that you did not get the second one (if your application was complete shortly after you submitted it), and the third one depends on when you initially started interacting with UGA and what you have requested/participated in/etc. with UGA. If the myStatus page shows your file as complete, then you are fine. You might want to check your spam email folder, or set up all uga.edu emails to not go to spam.

  14. hmmm now this has me worried too! I also applied early, and had my application in by mid September..I have never received any email from UGA at all, about anything...have nothing in my spam folder either. I hope I dont miss something important that I need to know about it!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Worried, that's what I was thinking. Nothing in spam. However status is always current and everything was quickly marked as received in September. SAT's and ACT scores were quickly updated and marked received. So, I am assuming there has been no reason to email me. At least...I am hoping!

  16. worried and concerned: If your application is complete, there is no reason for the admissions office to email you at this time. The myStatus page has the most up-to-date information, as the data is pulled from the student information system. Sometimes no news is good news.

  17. I sent my SAT and ACT scores to UGA way back in September, but my early action application status still says they are missing. I've emailed them four times already, and their response is only to check back later. I tried calling their office too, but I cannot reach the (706)542-8776 number they give on their website. Is there any way for me to check whether UGA has my scores or not?

  18. Anon: I would suggest you review your SAT and ACT score reports that you received, and see if the full name, birthdate, and SSN match what you gave UGA on the application. Then email admproc@uga.edu and list all the previous information and we will see if we can match up the scores. If you left off the SSN and your name does not exactly match up with the one you gave admissions (Mia instead of Amelia), then it cannot match up automatically and we need to go into our system and make the connection.

  19. I thought I was a very strong applicant for EA. After my application was submitted and complete, I got into trouble for the first time in my life at the high school homecoming football game and was suspended from school. I was waiting for some issues to be resolved before I updated my application. How am I suppose to update my application? I feel it important to meet with an admissions counselor to discuss this issue. Would that be possible? It has always been my dream to go to UGA and now I am worried that my mistake will ruin my chances to get in EA or ever. Please let me know what I should do. I am worried......

  20. I'm worried: I would suggest sending a written explanation ASAP to admproc@uga.edu. This is not an issue where you need to sit and speak with an admission counselor, as it is better to put in writing what occurred, what the punishment was, and what you are doing now to right your situation. I cannot guess as to the outcome, but this is the best course of action.

  21. I know this blog is mainly about EA action for freshman, but do you know when decisions will be made for transfer students for Summer/Fall 2011?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anon: This blog is a mixture of topics about freshman and transfer admission, with different posts depending on what is happening at that time of year, and what the timeline is like for the different application types. During the fall, a number of posts will be about Early Action freshman, as that is what is being reviewed at that time.

As for summer and fall transfers, I expect that we will begin the review of summer transfer applications in December, and that we may begin the fall transfer review process in late January. That is why I suggest that transfer applicants get their fall 2010 grades into us on a transcript as soon after the term is over as possible.

  23. Thank you so much for your quick reply. I have worked so hard all through high school with hopes of attending UGA and I pray my mistake won't destroy my dream. I have never ever gotten in trouble before :( And I know I will never ever again. I just hope it is not too late. Thank you.

  24. I sent my October SAT scores a little late and they have just shown up on myStatus November 15. Is this too late to be considered for Early Admission?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anon: If they are in the system and showing up on myStatus, then we will use them, as they were received before the final Oct. ACT scores arrived.

  26. I have sent off my portion of the UGA application prior to the December 15th deadline, however my teacher/counselor forms, Nov SAT scores and my fee waiver information have not been received. Will this affect my admission decision? will I be considered just a Regular Decision Applicant?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon: The deadline for Reg. Decision is Jan. 15. The priority admission deadline for any scholarship review is Dec. 15, but you will still be either Early Action or Regular Decision, depending on what you selected. You need to make sure you have all the required materials in by Jan. 15 to be considered for Reg. Decision, and if you are wanting to get everything in for the priority scholarship timeline, you should have these items postmarked by Dec. 15.
