In addition, if we cut freshman students, that would only increase the number of future transfer applicants (denied freshman many times become transfer applicants), thus increasing the competitiveness for transfer admission.

As for UGA being an "elitist" institution, I personally do not feel that the current consideration levels are in any way elitist, but that is my opinion. For forestry, my suggestion is to speak directly with the people in the Warnell School, talk to them about your interest, and see if they have suggestions about your situation. Since I do not have details about your academic standing, I cannot comment about your particular situation. In addition, if, after speaking with the Forestry School, you can then choose to appeal your decision, and maybe see if either a previous professor or the person from Warnell can write a letter of support. During the appeal process, we do look at a variety of things, including the courses you have taken, your progression, letters of support, etc., and we do look carefully at students who are applying to programs that are not offered elsewhere in the state of Georgia. First though, I would suggest talking to someone in the Warnell School.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-9532735515240968082010-10-08T12:37:45.876-04:002010-10-08T12:37:45.876-04:00It seems like the number of freshman admissions sh...It seems like the number of freshman admissions should be restricted if space is an issue because it is alot easier to get your core classes at another institution rather than your major classes in your junior and senior years. For students who cannot move or attend another institution in another city, this greatly hinders the ability to complete an education. Also, what should you do if a major such as forestry isn't offerred anywhere else nearby? It seems like UGA is trying to become an "elitist" institution rather than attempting to meet the needs of the citizens of Georgia. Are there ever any transfer admissions waivers for hardship if you are very, very close to the required GPA?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-63918437904478390362010-10-08T12:00:08.025-04:002010-10-08T12:00:08.025-04:00Anon: The reason for the increase from a 2.50 GPA ...Anon: The reason for the increase from a 2.50 GPA to a 2.80 GPA for transfers with 60+ hours was due to space on campus, as we are now at roughly 35,000 total students. Over the past several years, UGA had a large growth in transfer students meeting the baseline set for admission, and we could not continue to keep on growing.

As a taxpayer of Georgia (of which I am one as well), I am sure that you also want the students that we admit to have classroom space, parking spaces, places to study, etc., all within a limited budget. As well, you most likely want the students to continue to challenge themselves and be prepared for the coursework at UGA. The stronger a transfer student is coming into UGA, the better off they are in our classes (in general), and the better chance they have of both being admitted into a major, graduating, and getting a job after graduation.

Due to the projected increase in high school graduates in Georgia over the next ten years, I do not see demand slowing down for admission to UGA, for freshman or transfers. As such, I do not see a decrease in the transfer consideration levels in the future.

UGA is a land-grant university, and looks to educate a large number of Georgians. But UGA cannot do this alone, and that is why there are 35 other USG colleges and schools out there. Remember, there are over 300,000 students at USG colleges.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-65945815133706195472010-10-08T11:46:26.954-04:002010-10-08T11:46:26.954-04:00Are there any plans to go back to the 2.5 min for ...Are there any plans to go back to the 2.5 min for transfer students who have at least 60 hrs? As a taxpayer in Georgia, I'm really upset that a student who is passing classes, never been on academic probation, works and attends classes faithfully can't transfer into UGA to complete an education. UGA is a landgrant univ. and was set up to educate a diverse population including diversity in GPA's as long as they are passing their classes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-76110211700315642262010-05-07T09:22:43.362-04:002010-05-07T09:22:43.362-04:00Anon: Congratulations to your daughter!
