My best suggestion is to review the form, then contact our office (I am guessing the best way for you is email) and spell out what problems you have with completing the form. Our office can then go forward from there.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-27873674710964277432009-12-01T09:27:47.744-05:002009-12-01T09:27:47.744-05:00Hi there! I'm having difficulties with the admission forms especially the citizenship part of the form. I have no visa yet. does the University have specific guidance to fill up the forms, or sample forms for International students.. We are looking at what a student is passionate about, how they spend their time, and how they have grown within their activities. We also look at commitment (both time and energy) and their interaction within their community (broadly viewed) in their activities.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-11153339316810725462009-12-01T08:30:47.714-05:002009-12-01T08:30:47.714-05:00Megan: I will try to answer your question, althoug...Megan: I will try to answer your question, although there are never two "identical" students. First, UGA does look at schools based upon a detailed analysis each year that looks at the freshman from that school, and comparing how they did their first year at UGA vs. how we predicted they would do. We then use this to understand that school and their students better.

Second, though, is the somewhat false idea that you can compare AP exam results from such a wide variety of classes. Can you really compare, for instance, a 3 in an AP Human Geography exam vs. a 3 in an AP Physics exam? It gets a little more complicated than that. In addition, you might be falling into the "my friend said" trap, as I am guessing not everyone at your friend's school made a 1 or 2. Generally, people do not know everything about other students, so it is never wise to compare unless you have all the details.

Third, there is also the idea of context. When we look at applicants, we also want to look at the context of their overall situation. We have had a number of students who have attended schools that are severely limited in course offerings, but challenge themselves above and beyond the limits of their situation. We also have some students who attend what are considered "the best school in X state" (there seem to be about 50 or so in every state), yet do not take advantage of their options, and instead slide by. UGA looks at the broad scope of a student, and the context of their situation, in order to understand their entire application.

Long, but I hope it helps.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-57977298749123117742009-11-30T21:04:12.124-05:002009-11-30T21:04:12.124-05:00Are there any particular extracurriculars that UGA...Are there any particular extracurriculars that UGA looks at and likes more than the others i.e. sports, volunteer, jobs, leadership positions?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-84051232768460551222009-11-30T11:59:18.765-05:002009-11-30T11:59:18.765-05:00Hi Mr. Graves,

I have a friend in another part of Ga who took an AP course and most of the students in her class made A's but made 1s and 2s on their AP exams. This makes me think the courses in my school are harder because I made 2 Bs in my AP courses but made a 3 and a 4 on the exams. Do some high schools produce more students who are better prepared than others and does UGA take notice? Thanks for your answer.Megannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-37049273270403468802009-11-30T11:39:01.375-05:002009-11-30T11:39:01.375-05:00Anon: The decisions will be posted on the status c...Anon: The decisions will be posted on the status check and mailed out to students, so you will have two ways to get the information. My best guess is that decisions will be released on Dec. 11, late afternoon-early evening, but I can not promise this until it actually happens. You never know when something unexpected might come up, so I never want to promise something that might at the last second be delayed, but Dec. 11 is my best prediction.DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-626504094921157272009-11-30T09:25:18.343-05:002009-11-30T09:25:18.343-05:00I hope you and the UGA staff had a wonderful Thank...I hope you and the UGA staff had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I wanted to know if it had been decided on the date of posting early admission decisions. Also, is the only way to view these decisions on the UGA website or are they going to be emailed to us? Thanks so much.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-85099793530723755892009-11-30T08:19:31.549-05:002009-11-30T08:19:31.549-05:00Anonymous: We do not strip away any weight given t...Anonymous: We do not strip away any weight given to an individual course, but we will then not add any weight to his AP or IB courses. As well, although we do not weight Honors courses, we do take them into consideration (as we do an applicants entire rigor of curriculum). I would also suggest you look at the posts I have done under the label GPA, as I go into more detail about this issue.

Second Anon: We do take the SAT-W into consideration in our overall review, and yes, it could impact whether a student is admitted or not. As for comparing two students, I do not like to do this, as no student is identical, but if it was possible to have identical students, then yes, it could have an impact on the decision, just like a higher GPA, a more rigorous curriculum, a stronger SAT CR or Math, etc.

Hope this helps!DGraveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07898528441077213024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-75377987452405108582009-11-29T09:29:13.212-05:002009-11-29T09:29:13.212-05:00Happy Thanksgiving! I read the article that you referenced concerning the writing score and its correlation to college success. Given that article is a superior writing score something that could tip the scales to acceptance rather than deferral? In otherwords if you had 2 students that had comparably solid grades, rigor and SAT - could a great writing score (much higher than their solid math and reading) get one accepted and a less stellar writng score get the other student deferred?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1610885684347083635.post-31734910181797550072009-11-28T16:04:37.919-05:002009-11-28T16:04:37.919-05:00I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. At his school, 5pts are added to honors courses. I've read that UGA doesn't weight honors courses. Does this mean that the admissions staff strips away the given additional points for honors courses? Or does this mean that if a school doesn't already weight honors courses, additional points will not be added? Thanks for the clarification.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
