2012 EA Decisions are Now Available!

Due to between 40,000-50,000 individuals trying to access the site, we are having server problems, so we suggest checking back later this evening when we have the server working correctly and the traffic is not as heavy. In addition, do not have multiple devices or people trying to access your student information, as that may slow access to your information.

Early Action decisions are now available online, and the applicant pool was very strong! Approximately 5,700 students were admitted, and here is the link to the 2012 EA admitted student press release with some statistics included. We are thrilled to have such a strong group of admitted students, but please also know that we will still be admitting a substantial number of students over the next 3-4 months.

For those of you who were deferred, please understand that this is not a denial decision, but just a situation where we wanted to look more in-depth at you as student and a person, and we want to be able to take the time to review everything in detail about you, from your short essays to activities to recommendations. Also, make sure you read the deferred student FAQ, especially before commenting on here please.

If you have questions about your specific decision, I ask that you not post them on this blog, as I truly cannot answer specific questions about individual students here (both because I generally do not have the actual student's information, and because I cannot disclose individual student information in a comment). My best suggestion is to talk with both your family and your HS counselor, review my suggestions about how to react to EA decisions, and read the FAQ's that are available off your myStatus page.

Also, please be aware that I will be at a youth retreat until Sunday evening, so a co-worker of mine, Lindsey Whittaker, will be responding to some of your comments while I am absent. Be nice, be patient, be courteous, and I hope our earlier timeframe was a help to all of you.

Have a great weekend, and Go Dawgs!

  2. Any idea on when the server will be up? Been trying for an hour and a half. Didn't think 10,000 folks would bring it down.

  3. We have had somewhere between 40,000-50,000 people trying to access it (students, parents), so it crashed. We are restarting the server, so check back in an hour. David Graves

  4. Thank you David. Will stay off until after six. Didn't think more than 10-15 thousand would try to log in. That's interesting. Thank you

  5. I noticed that UGA is admitting for summer and spring, too. Why is that? Is it because they were not the best of the best to get into the fall like everyone else, but they weren't rejected either... So they just kind of rolled over? I'm confused. Thanks!

  6. First, while you most likely are not trying to write your comment in a negative way, I am guessing you just offended a number of people. Second, UGA admits freshman to the summer term because they ask to be considered for the summer term, not because it is some type of probationary term. If they want to change to fall, they just email us and we switch them (or we are happy to change you from fall to summer if you choose, as we have several unique summer programs for entering freshman). As for Spring, we expect to enroll about 100 freshman for this coming Spring term, as we have space for a small group of students, with some coming from the wait-list, but also some applying for Spring (semester break, athletes starting early, etc.). Again, fall is not the only option and other terms are not punishment, so please do not disparage these students.

  7. I was also wondering why student are being admitted for other semesters (spring, in my case) when I applied for fall. I have no sports I'm in or anything lime that, either. I'm just curious. Thanks for your help!

  8. I am assuming that this is based on an application decision from last March (8 months ago), as we have not admitted any students to Spring during the EA process. As I mentioned in a post down a few responses ago, a limited number of final decisions in March at times admit freshman for Spring, as we have a limited number of Spring openings for freshman due to Dec. graduation, study abroad, etc. where there will also be openings in housing (freshman have to live on campus their first year). Last year, we only admitted about 100 students to Spring, and these were students who would have fallen into the wait-list, but we decided to shift them into Spring (wait-list offers ask if the student is okay with a fall only option or with fall OR spring). Since we did not admit any wait-list students last year, and you were admitted spring, most people would have seen this as a positive that you we offered a spot as a whole. Again, spring freshman admission is when we have a small number of spaces, so we try to offer them so a limited number of freshman who would not have been admitted for the summer/fall now have a chance at attending UGA. If you feel this is not a good option for you, you can decide not to attend and move forward with cancelling your application.
