Spring 2011 deadline extended to Sept. 3, 4 p.m.

In order to work with students who may have been impacted by the application being down for a short period of time in early August, we have extended the Spring 2011 Freshman and Transfer deadline to Friday, September 3 at 4 p.m. Please make sure that all the required materials have been submitted by the deadline. For transfers, this means that all transcripts from all colleges ever attended need to be submitted to our office. For freshman, we will need all forms, transcripts and test scores to be postmarked by this date. I expect that almost all decisions for Spring 2011 freshman and transfer applicants will be made by late September.

Go Dawgs!

  1. What should I do if I want to change the major and my file is completed? Its still in the same school. I didnt know if it was that critical.

    Thanks!

  2. Mary: If you have not yet received a decision, you can email admproc@uga.edu to request a change. If you already have a decision, then you cannot change the major until orientation (or afterwards!).

  3. I've just been admitted as a transfer student for spring 2011 but I'm not sure where to find the deadline to enroll by?

    Thanks!

  4. Lillie: We will open the Orientation site in October, and this is how transfers indicate their intent to enroll, as well as take the next step in the enrollment process.

  5. How many transfer applications do you have this year for Spring 2011?

  6. Anon: My estimate is that we will have about 1500 spring transfer applicants.

  7. In relation to the last answer, So almost how many of transfer students get accepted?

  8. Asad: Generally, as many as meet the requirements set forth by UGA.We do not admit a certain number of transfers, but more it is based on the academic requirements set forth each term.

  9. I was on the wait-list for fall semester 2010 as a freshman. I got accepted for the spring semester. I was wondering when orientation will take place and if I will get to choose where I live.

  10. DGraves,
I was recently accepted as a transfer student for Spring '11. I've decided that I want to stay where I am, so I wanted to see if there was some way to decline my acceptance so that maybe another person would have a chance. I created an ApplicantID account but can't find anything there about how to cancel my acceptance. Any advice or should I just do nothing?

  11. Anon: Information on orientation and housing will come out shortly, and orientation should open up in early October.

Samantha: If you would like to cancel your application, you can log onto your Status Page, and there is a section there where you can cancel it.

  12. Does receiving a UGAID number mean anything?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anon: It means that you have a UGAID, as does every applicant to UGA. This does not give any indication of any decision.

  14. I've applied as a transfer student for Spring 2011. Is it odd that I haven't heard anything in terms of acceptance yet?
Also, I indicated on my application that I am out-of-state since I've lived and attended college in Florida. However, I didn't realize that one parent's residence in GA changes my status to in-state. How can I edit that on my application? I want to do it asap since I think it could influence the admissions decision.

  15. Anon: We are half a business day beyond the extended deadline for Spring, so please be patient as we review the applications. It is not odd that you have not heard a decision yet, as we still have a number of applications to review. As for residency, you would need to complete a Petition for In-State Residency, http://www.reg.uga.edu/or.nsf/preview/residency. Residency has nothing to do with an admissions decision, though.

  16. I have just been denied admissions for Spring 2011. Can you please provide information on the appeals process (location of forms, deadlines, content, etc.)?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon: My advice is to call our office and talk to a counselor, as a large number of appeals are not granted. I would want the counselor to go over your file with you, talk to you about why you feel you should appeal, and then go from there.

  18. DGraves,
I logged onto my ApplicantID account and went to the status page and there was no option to cancel my acceptance. Is there any other way to do it? Thanks.

  19. Samantha: I would then suggest emailing admproc@uga.edu.

  20. I was recently denied acceptance to uga and I just have a few questions about the review process. I applied with 55 hours and a 3.13 GPA which is just below the 3.2 requirement. However, I earned this GPA from Hampden Sydney College, which was ranked the number 6 private school in the south by Forbes in 2010, ahead of schools such as Davidson and William and Mary. My question is that was the school from which I was transferring from taken into consideration, or was simply the fact that I was below the requirement cause me to be denied? It just does not seem fair for a person who may have a 3.2 from a much less difficult school is deemed qualified because they meet the requirement.
    Thanks

  21. Scott: No, we do not look at whether a college is public or private, ranked high or low, etc., when reviewing a transfer applicant. We look at how you did in your classes, and the grades that you made. I am sorry that this does not seem fair to you, but that is what UGA, as the flagship University for the state of GA, has decided to do as far as transfer evaluation.

  22. I have applied as a transfer/post bacc. student, I submitted my application the day prior to the original deadline and all of my transcripts have been recieved. Currently the application status is closed. When can I expect a decision to be made? Thank You!

  23. Anon: I just spoke to our tech people, and they say the status check is open. Log into your myStatus page (https://www.admissions.uga.edu/access.html), and you should see the information about your application. As well, anyone who has submitted an application that is now in our system has access to their Status Check. If a student has only started an application but not submitted it, they will not have access to the Status Check, as their application is not in our system. It also gives you an email address to contact our tech department if you are having issues.

  24. Anon: As far as a decision timeline, I cannot say when you will hear, but as I have said above, I expect a majority of spring transfer applicants to hear by the end of Sept.

  25. I already been accepted but if i get under the 3.2 gpa requirement will they take back the accepts

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon: We will review your new work, and if we determine that there was a major drop below our requirements, we could revoke an admission decision.

    ReplyDelete
  27. so i shouldnt get below a 3.2

  28. Anon: As I have said in many posts, I do not guess about situations, especially when I do not have all the details. My best suggestion is to not go below the consideration for admission GPA levels.
