Spring 2011 Transfer Application Is Now Back!

Thanks to to hard work of the UGA Admissions technology team, the Spring 2011 Transfer Application is now up and working again! For those applicants who had started an application earlier in the week in the new system, we have pushed almost all of these over to the new system (there were a few with issues). As well, for the students who applied prior to the change over in systems (generally prior to August 1), you should also be able to move forward with accessing your myStatus Page. Both groups can go to the Create ApplicantID Account, login with your email address, and it will send you a temporary password. From there, you will then be able to take the next steps of accessing the myStatus page. We will also be sending out emails to the applicants impacted by this to give them instructions.

In addition, for everyone who is going in as a new transfer applicant, you will also go to the Create ApplicantID Account, and you will then create your ApplicantID profile and you will be on your way to applying!

As always, I stress patience as we jump into a new system, and we are happy to have this up and rolling after only a limited period of downtime. As well, since we have been focusing on speed and getting this up quickly, please excuse any minor typographical errors and let us know if you have any issues.

As an added note, Spring Freshman will be able to apply early next week when we bring up the Freshman application for next year.

Go Dawgs!

  1. Just a quick update: In the first few minutes of the email going out, several "prior applicant" students have already created an ApplicantID and have then been able to access their myStatus page. I am glad to see it is working!

  2. I submitted my application in June but when I created an applicantID and logged in, the website asked me what type of application I would like to start. Did I do something wrong? Should I call the admissions office?

  3. Blair: The email and/or my instructions would have taken you to https://www.admissions.uga.edu/applicant_id/users/previous_applicant_check, which checks to see if you have an application already in the system. If it is able to locate the email as one in the new system, it will give you a temp. password. If not, it would take you to the page that would let you create an ApplicantID. As such, you would most likely be one of the few applicants that we were not able to migrate over, and you would want to email adm-tech@uga.edu about your issue. You would want to explain the situation, include your full name and birth date, along with the email address on the application. They will move forward from there.

  4. Thanks for the help. It gave me a temporary password but when I logged in using that password I was asked which application I wanted to start. I will email the tech team, thanks!

  5. Hi, my status check says that I do not have a transcript on file while it had previously said my transcript was received on 7/26.
Is there any reason this would change after the system updated? Should I resend the transcript anyways?

  6. Blair: We are re-arranging the links on the myStatus page, as you should see three (or more) options on the page when you view it. One option is if you need to submit an updated/new application (for the 500 or so who applied prior to the new ApplicantID), another is for checking your status, and a third if you want to cancel your application. We are shifting the new application to the bottom and we will clean up the page, and this only shows up for the small group of pre-ApplicationID people as we those data tables do not have your previous data.

Terra: As I have said, please be patient, as we are working on the fly. I am guessing you are the Terra I have communicated with before, and all your transcripts are in and you do not need to worry.

  7. what is the address to send transcripts and do i need to send any other documents.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anon: The web site for Admissions is www.admissions.uga.edu, and our address is on the bottom. As for what you would need to send in, I could not say, as I do not know what type of applicant you are (freshman, transfer, former, etc.). My suggestion is to read the web pages that walk you through the applications, as this will tell you what is needed for your application type, as well as other pertinent information.

  9. As another update, we were able to push the status check applicant data back into the system, so hopefully all applicants can now see their full span of information. Sorry for brief delay, but we were focused first on getting the application up and running.

  10. how do i have to write the address on the envelope for my transcripts. do i have to put uga undergraduate admissions or university of Georgia ?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anon: You can put both on the envelope, in either order, along with the address at the bottom of the website.

  12. My ApplicantID also claims that I do not have an application on file and asks me which application I would like to start. I have already received my acceptance letter but I just want to cover all bases and make sure I don't get booted out of the system.

  13. Anon: Just because the myStatus page asks about which application you would like to start, it does not mean that your application is not in the official UGA Student Information System. As you can see by already being admitted, it means it is in the system. What seeing this phrase does mean is that, due to the fact that you applied prior to the new ApplicationID system, it is not in our initial online database that is linked to the ApplicationID. The reason for this is due to us changing the system after you applied, and thus you did not have to go through this initial process to apply. It is not a big deal at all, and not worth worrying about.

What you can see (I am guessing) is that you can check your status, and it will show you information from the overall admissions database which shows all applications in our Student Information System. It should show a decision, transcripts, etc. That is the key for anyone who applied before the changeover.

  14. Nowhere after I login to ApplicantID does it say "Check Status." I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong place or what, but it has the Dashboard tab, the Settings tab, and Logout tab and none of them say anything about Application Status.

  15. I checked my status today after it had opened back up again and still no decision has been made. Both my application and my transcripts have been in since May. I saw that you all have been making decisions since July. When should I hear back? Late September? October?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anon I: Since you are using the name Anonymous, I have nothing to even guess about concerning your situation specifically. My suggestion is to email adm-tech@uga.edu and give them your name, birth date, etc., as well as your email so they can assist you.

Anon II: As I have said before, I cannot guess as to when you would hear a decision, and since you are using the name Anonymous, I cannot even guess as to your specific application. My suggestion is to call the admissions office and ask to speak to the primary counselor, and then have that person check to see what is in, if all of the transcripts have up-to-date work on them, etc.

  17. I applied for Spring 2011 and have received my acceptance letter. I have accessed the new status check but it does not show the decision. Am I okay or do I need to do anything else?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Chris: Remember, this is a new system, so we are still working on some specifics. You are fine, as you already received a decision, so now just wait for an email about orientation (I expect we will start sending it out in late Sept./mid Oct.).

  19. i already applied for spring 2011 as an international freshman student,my question is should i send out my original high school transcript or i should get it evaluated first then send both documents?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anon: Either way is fine, but make sure that we have all materials into our office by Sept. 1.

  21. I applied for transfer for Spring of 2011 and have had all my materials in since May. I am starting to wonder if I did not complete something during the application process and I am getting a little worried. I have friends who applied after i did and the have received their acceptance letters. I was wondering if you could possibly check into that. Thanks.

  22. S. G.: I will check on your file, and I would suggest patience for a few more weeks as we go through the spring transfer applicants. Hopefully you will have a decision shortly.

  23. DGraves:

I just created my ApplicantID, applied online, and paid. I never seen anything telling me I needed to send a transcript from my current college. Do I just have to apply online and that's it, or is there more I need to do?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chase: The Transfer Admission page, the Introduction page for the Transfer Application, and two places on Step One of the Application all list that you need to send in official transcripts to UGA from all colleges attended. In addition, the status page that you will have access to in a few days will also give you this information. I guess we thought that this was enough to let transfer students know to send in official transcripts. I am sorry if I sound a bit curt, but I think we are fairly clear on this issue.

  25. i am an international student and i plan on transferring to uga for the spring term. i have submitted my transcript and i don't need to take TOEFL because i have taken English 1101 and 1102, is there still any other document i have to submit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon: I would assume that you have already applied, so I will not list this as a needed document. As an international student, you would also need to provide us with a completed Certificate of Finance form and a copy of your visa document. In addition, if admitted there will most likely be a form that is needed from the other college you are attending concerning your student visa status.

    ReplyDelete
  27. DGraves:

You are correct there were reminders that a transcript and an online application are both required. So if I'm wanting to transfer all I need to do is apply online, and get the college I have been at to send an official transcript to UGA?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Chase: Yes, for transfer students (unless you are an international transfer), you need to provide us with the application, the application fee, and sealed, official transcripts from every college you have attended.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Has your admissions office received a large number of transfer applications for Spring 2011? I am asking because the online application link was down for a while earlier this month.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon: I will not know how many people have applied for Spring transfer admission until Sept. 1, and I try not to guess. Generally, having the application down for a short while does not impact transfer application numbers, as it is not a very long or complicated application.

    ReplyDelete
  31. how do i check my transfer appliciation status?

    ReplyDelete
  32. DGraves:

Ok, so I have applied online, paid for the application, and went to see someone in my college's undergraduate admissions office to get a transcript sent to UGA. That is all I need to do correct? By the way, I've only been at one college.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anon: You would go to the myStatus page, https://www.admissions.uga.edu/access.html, and this would show you the status of your application. Please remember that if you submitted your application recently, we may not have pushed your information into our student information system yet (at the beginning of a new admissions cycle, it takes a few days to get the data import correct).

Chase: If you are a transfer student that has only attended one college, then yes, that is all you need to submit. Make sure to begin checking the myStatus page next week to make sure the transcript arrives.

  34. it has been five business days and the system says i dont have a status, what do i do?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon: My first suggestion is my most common one, be patient. Remember, we are using a new application system, so please be patient. I expect that we will be importing a large number of transfer applications into the system either tomorrow or Monday, with freshman applicants to follow, so please be patient.

  36. Hey, so if I'm a first semester freshman at ga southern but want to transfer to uga in the spring of 2011, I can apply even with only 16 credit hours that will be completed by Dec 2010? If not what do I do and when?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anon: No, you cannot apply to UGA as a transfer student until you have 30 or more transferable hours completed by the deadline for the term you are looking at attending. So for Fall 2011, you would need 30+ hours completed by April 1 to be considered.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All: We are starting to push in the new Spring 2011 applications, and over the next few days we will be matching up the materials associated with these files. Please understand that whenever we start the cycle of pushing new information into the system, some data might need to be corrected as we adjust the import system. Please be patient, know that we will be updating these files over the next few business days, and we will then be moving forward with reviewing the applications.

    ReplyDelete
  39. These new Spring 2011 files are still for transfers right? In other words, you have not started working on the first years Spring applications, right?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anon: Yes, the spring files that we imported were transfers, and I expect that we will be importing the freshman within the next few business days or so after working on making sure the data is coming in correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Does each school/college play a role in admitting students for transfers?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anon: No, each school (I am guessing you are talking about the UGA colleges/schools such as Terry College of Business) does not play a part in the admission role. Admissions determines the decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Does UGA recognize students who have served in the military? I saw on the application where it asked if one was in the military or served in the Georgia National Guard.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anon: I am not sure what you mean by "recognize". We ask this question in part to help our financial aid office, in part to know more about a student's situations, and in part because the state has asked us to include these questions. So I guess you could say we recognize this situation.

  45. Okay, not sure if this will be answered since the last comment was made on August 20th, but I'll give it a shot! I have a few questions:
    1. I am a freshman at a large state school up North, but I would like to transfer to UGA. I realize that I can only apply to do so for the Spring of 2012. What would be the best thing to do--stay where I am for the Fall semester, or transfer to a closer school like Gainsville State for the time being? In other words, does the fact that I would have been at two schools affect my chances?
    2. Also, because I will be applying right at the beginning of my Fall semester, (if I got in) would the classes I take that semester be eligible to transfer or would they not be counted?

    Thanks for any help!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon: I get an email every time someone adds a comment, so do not worry about commenting on older posts.

    1) UGA does not have any viewpoint, positive or negative, if you decide to stay at your current school or switch to a GA one. How many colleges you attend has no impact on the actual decision.

    2) We will only be able to look at your Fall 2010/Spring 2011 work for admissions purposes, but if you are admitted, you need to send in your Fall 2011 work so we can review it and post the work towards the transferable courses that will apply towards a UGA degree.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you! One more question, does UGA accept certain summer/online courses? I'm registering my Spring schedule now, and I need two more hours to get to 30 hours, so I was planning on taking a 4 credit summer Spanish class through my university.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anon: You would want to look at our transfer equivalency database, https://www.admissions.uga.edu/transferequiv.html, for details about what classes we accept or not. We do not limit courses based upon summer or online vs. traditional, but I would most likely not suggest taking a Spanish class online, as it might not give you the speaking basis you need.
