Fall Transfer Updates Part VI

This will probably be the last update on Fall transfer decisions, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. As of late this afternoon, we had approximately 30 files left to evaluate for Fall transfer decisions (this is excluding students who have had an issue with a transcript, have an situation where we have made an deadline exception, etc.). In other words, we are at the tail end of the process!!!

We will still have a lot of work to do this summer as we work on enrolling students and their updated transcripts, final high school transcripts, etc, but we are all glad that we are almost finished. Please make sure that if you have been admitted as a transfer student, you need to get in any updated spring work on an official transcript so we can post this work in your file and have this information in before your orientation and scheduling of classes.

The 30 or so remaining files are generally the more difficult ones, either because of the number of classes transferring in from schools we do not have a history with, a wide range of schools/transcripts, or applicants who really pushed the deadline.

But hopefully everyone has made it through this challenging transfer cycle, and I wish you well in your college future.

Go Dawgs!!

Are yall now done with the fall transfers, and about ready to start on the spring transfers when the application opens up?

  2. Anon: Please remember that we still have about 5,000 final HS transcripts to take care of, 1,000 or so updated college transcripts for admitted transfers, and about 500 college transcripts for admitted freshman. Summer is still busy, so I expect we will begin the review of Spring students in late July.

  3. I have already been accepted into UGA and I could not be happier!!!! However, today I got my orientation letter in the mail and I noticed that my major, Communication Sciences and Disorders, has an I next to it. I know that at some schools this I stands for interest or intention but not acceptance into the program. This is concerning to me, because I was accepted into this major back in March. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks so much for all your help. You have helped relieve a lot of anxiety through out this whole process. I know you don't have to write in this blog, and I really appreciate that you take time out of your day to write in it anyway!

  4. Ok, well I can't wait to apply and hopefully be accepted!

  5. Lauren: For three UGA colleges (Business, Education and Journalism), all new students start as Intended Majors, and then need to work with their specific college about applying for the specific major after starting at UGA. Each major has different requirements, and you would start the process by speaking to your advisor at orientation. You should not worry about this issue, as all new students in these colleges are in the same boat.

  6. So, are you done with reviewing and making admission decisions for all of the fall transfer applications?

  7. Anon: Yes, for the most part we are done with fall transfer applicants. There are a few students who had issues with transcripts that we are still working on (mostly since they came in after all others), and we will be sending an email to applicants who were late/incomplete with materials in a few days.

Generally, if a student was extremely late with materials, never sent in a transcript, did not send in updated transcripts with work through at least Fall of 2009, or did not pay the application fee, we cannot make a decision. This is a small group, but we can only move forward with complete files.

Hi, I'm writing an article for the Red and Black on transfer students, is there any way you can give me a rough estimate on the number of transfer students for Fall 2010 and/or their academic profile? Thanks so much. My e-mail is awilliar@uga.edu.

  9. Allison: We will not know what the enrolled transfer group will look like until late July/early August, as we need to see who has yet to sign up for orientation but will do so before the start of fall classes. I expect that we will have about 1150-1250 fall transfer students enroll, but this is only a rough estimate. Based upon who we have admitted, the average transfer GPA will be between a 3.40 and a 3.45.

Again, all of these projected numbers are based upon the admitted transfer applicant data, and we still have to wait and see who enrolls.

  11. patient transfer: Did you talk to your advisor as to why you could not register for the math class? I could not say why you are not able to register for this class, but it should not stop you from registering for the other classes you are looking at and then adding the math class next week. I would suggest speaking with your advisor next week, and then see what steps are needed next, and if you need to speak with an admissions evaluator.

  13. I’m currently at GCSU with 57 credit hours and 3 credit hours from Clayton State. I will apply at UGA for Spring 2011 as a transfer student as soon as the application becomes available mid June.

I will be right at 60 hours when I submit my application/transcripts. I have checked the UGA transfer equivalency website and am concerned about one class. GCSU’s Jogging WELL 2200 shows as WELL**** = equals UGA course PEDB1T**. Will that credit hour transfer?

  14. Anon: UGA allows for one hour of transfer PE credit, but does not use the grade in the calculation of the GPA. So if this is your only course that comes in as a PE class, then the one hour class will come in and be used as part of the transferable hours for admission consideration.

  15. Good morning! Can you please confirm if all decisions on transfers for fall have been completed? My app check status shows no change and still says I'm being considered as a transfer student for fall and I have not heard anything further. Thanks!

  16. Anon: We have at most 10 applications that do not yet have a decision. These are ones that had may be working with an academic department, their file is being reviewed by a program on campus, etc. I would suggest you call our office about your file. Please understand that my explanations on transfers do not include Study Abroad applicants, or students who have applied to the Griffin or Tifton campuses.

  17. Thanks DGraves! My first choice was Music, which is what is showing on the app status check page for Franklin College of Arts & Science. But my second choice isn't reflected (English major). Will both majors be considered if acceptance into Music isn't allowed?

  18. Anonymous: I would suggest you still call our office and speak to a counselor, as music is not one of the programs that is reviewing any applications. When you review your status check, does it show that you sent in all transcripts on time?

  19. No, one of the transcripts was late but does show received on 5/19. I spoke to someone a couple of weeks ago and was told that my file was still being considered and the late transcript had not knocked me out of the possibility of being accepted. I tried to call again today and got voice mail. I will try again a little later today. Thanks again!
