Fall Transfer Update Part V

It is that time of week to update you on how the fall transfer process is going. Please excuse me if the updates look fairly similar, but I figure a consistent style is the best way to convey what is going on.

At this time, we have reviewed and made decisions on approximately 1900 applications (rough average of 50 decisions a day), and if we subtract the approximately 350 or so incomplete files, I expect that we have about 200-250 or so decisions left to go. The average per day has gone down a little, as some of the files we are now reviewing are very difficult cases that take much longer. A majority of the applicants that are still waiting applied after March 22 (or completed their files after that date), and we are finishing them off now. It has been a long and challenging process for both you, the applicants, but also for our evaluation team, as it is not a quick process. We must review every class, and if admissible, key in how each class comes into UGA, when it was taken, the number of HOPE hours, etc. Everyone will be glad when this process is done!

Please remember that if you make comments, please give me enough information to actually give accurate feedback, and try to not comment as Anonymous. It helps me keep my responses straight, and may make more sense to people following the comments at a later time.

  1. DGraves, Thanks for the continued updates. I see now that since I added a transcript late, my file was re-opened and therefore pushed back to the end. I appreciate your prompt responses to all of us and look forward to hopefully becoming "Georgia Bound!"

  2. Is there any update on the wait-list situation? As I graduate today, I feel like I should just accept defeat.

    Thanks!

  3. Adam: If you submitted a late transcript, I cannot say if we will be able to use it or not. I would suggest contacting our office to speak with someone about this, as it depends on why it was late and how late.

Anon: I hope to have something up by late this afternoon.

  4. I've tried contacting the admissions dept. twice, and both times I've gotten an automated response saying that my query has been forwarded and that someone will contact me within 2 days. However, both times I've waited, and ... nothing. I think I need to call to make sure. My status check does indicate that the transcript was received. Since that's the case, I figured I made the deadline?

  5. Adam: I am sorry you were not contacted back with more information. If by Tuesday, if you have not received a decision, contact me by email (http://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/meet_the_uga_admissions_staff.html) and I will try to give you more details.

  6. Patient transfer that is now a DAWGMay 22, 2010 at 2:26 AM

hey i was wondering if transfer students that enroll are covered by Guaranteed Tuition Plan that we had at our home school?

  7. So I just tried to check my application status this morning and I was unable to log in. The message above the log in said that, my status is unavailable at this time and to check back in 24 hours. Why would my status be unavailable?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Patient transfer: Since I do not know your specific situation (and since tuition classification is not admissions forte), I could not answer this. This would be a good question for the Bursar's office.

Lauren: I do not know why the status check is unavailable for you. Make sure you are entering in the right information, and check again in 24 hours.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I had tried to log in to check my status yesterday and it said I was unable to and to wait 24 hours. I waited and tried to log in today and I and still unable to view it. I am just wondering if you all are doing something with the applications or if that means a decision is pending.

  10. Andrew: I will check with our technology team tomorrow and see if there are any issues with the status check, and hopefully everything will be fine tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I came across the same problem for the application check it told me to wait 24 hours and sometimes says invalid login. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lauren, Andrew and Mikey: I have let our tech. team know about your issues, and they will look into it. At the same time, you may want to email adm-tech@uga.edu if it continues. They also wanted me to remind you to make sure you are using the correct login information (admissions login).

  13. I have the same problem. I cannot check my statuts but I do know I was accepted. It says I do not have a status. I also cannot log onto the New Dawg site. It says the same thing. I have been having this issues since Saturday

    ReplyDelete
  14. All: I believe that the issues with the status check should now be cleared up. Sorry for any inconvenience!

    ReplyDelete
  15. now that the status check is now cleared up my status now says that my transcripts have not been recieved....this is the first time it has ever said this now that i am expecting to finally hear my decision this week...should i be worried?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Really: I cannot comment on a specific situation if I do not have the details of the file. I would suggest that you log in tomorrow and review the status check, as the database does not change, but sometimes a student's personal computer might have an issue with accessing data. If the site indicates that you are missing materials tomorrow, I would suggest you contact our office.

  17. Same transcript problem, had requested my most recent transcript be sent two weeks ago and should have made it to Terrell Hall from GSC by now. I assume although I was conditionally accepted already I have nothing to fear but I can't be positive in the given situation. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sam: There is no "conditional" acceptance, unless you view all acceptances as "conditional". Students are either admitted or not admitted. If a student (freshman or transfer) has a serious decline in academics, UGA could re-review the application, but this is generally not thought of as "conditional".

As for a transcript not being received by UGA, we are scanning in and marking as received all transcripts on a daily basis. If UGA is not showing an updated transcript as being received, it is generally due to a delay with the sending institution. When we start receiving hundreds of final high school transcripts a day, there may be a days delay, but otherwise we are logging in all materials daily that we are receiving.

  19. I had received a letter from the undergraduate admission told me that my application as an internatinal transfer is not accepted because Evaluation of my foreign academic credit is not provided, so now I have the evaluation by an approved international credentials evaluation services. Could I send it now to complete the applicaion process for the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thank you for clearing that up.

    ReplyDelete
  21. When I logged in this afternoon, none of my transcripts showed up and there was only an X. Earlier today, just like everyday before this, the status check indicated UGA had received all four of my transcripts. Could this be a glitch in the computer system?

    ReplyDelete
  22. asmaa: Unfortunately, it is too late to take in new information at this time. I would suggest you contact our office about updating your application to Spring term.

Lauren: As you can see, there were a few issues this weekend, but I believe these were fixed by about 11 am. As I said above, "I would suggest that you log in tomorrow and review the status check, as the database does not change, but sometimes a student's personal computer might have an issue with accessing data. If the site indicates that you are missing materials tomorrow, I would suggest you contact our office. ", but it might be that it is just an issue related to the problem this weekend.

Take a deep breathe and wait until tomorrow to see what the status check is showing.

  23. Hey,
If I did not attend classes this semester do I still need to send in a transcript? Mine is still the exact same one I sent in when I applied to Transfer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. thanks so much dgraves
    I GOT IN!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Laura: If you did not attend classes this spring semester, then you do not need to send in an updated transcript.

    Relley: Congrats!

  26. I'm sending in my immunization forms and it asks for my UGA ID# and i'm not sure where to find that. Can you tell me where that number is?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon: You need to set up a UGA MyID account (you may have already done this), and you will be able to see your UGA ID number from that web portal.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I plan to apply for Spring 2011 as a transfer student. At the time of the September 1 deadline, I will have completed 60 hours exactly. In one of those 60 hour classes, I received a "D". Will UGA count those 3 credits in that class, toward the 60 requirement? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  29. You may not be able to answer this if it concerns another department but if we send in our immunization form is there any way we'll know if it has been received and processed?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon: I cannot say whether a certain course would come in or not, as I do not have specifics, but we try to spell out what courses will or will not come in both on the transfer equivalency site and at http://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/admission_information_for_transfer_students.html. For instance, if you repeated the "D" course, then we cannot transfer 2 of the same course in. But generally, a D course will transfer in (see the link above for the exception to this with an ENGL 1 course).

Becca: I am not able to answer this, but the Health Center should be able to do so.

  31. for some reason i have my CORRECT myID but it keeps saying my password or/and user name is incorrect and i have literally typed it in 10 times. who can i contact because i cannot complete the rest of my application without having those. thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. reallyaddicted: First, what type of application are you working on (freshman, transfer, etc.), and what term? The transfer application will be back up in mid-late June for Spring term, and the freshman application is only for Spring. In addition, there is a "Need Help" link on the top right, and it directs you to http://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/online_application_frequently_asked_questions.html. There is a link to the IT email at the bottom of the page, and they will be happy to help you.

  33. i was trying to work on the alcohol test that you require all students to take under the age of 23 on the check off list of things to do after being accepted. i didnt want to have anything turned in late:) but thanks so much i will contact the IT people right now hopefully they can help

    ReplyDelete
  34. reallyaddicted: If this is about the Alcohol awareness test, then you would not want to contact the Admissions IT department, as this is run by the Health Center (please understand that if you write the word "application" on an admissions blog, we are going to assume you mean an admissions application). You would go to http://www.uhs.uga.edu/mystudentbody/login-howto.html, and if you still have problems, there is an email link on the bottom left corner of this linked page.

    ReplyDelete
  35. okay i really appreciate all the help!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am just wondering how it is all coming along now? Have you all finished all the applications?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Andrew: I expect that we have a little over 100 transfer applicants to go. We are reviewing some of the more challenging files now, so they take a while, along with the very last application dates (March 30 and beyond).

    ReplyDelete
  38. alright thanks a lot... i'll keep on hoping and praying!

    ReplyDelete
  39. DGraves,
I was wondering if you could tell me where I can look so I can see which classes transfered to UGA? Many Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Adam: You can do this either by looking at the transfer equivalency, or by going to OASIS (on the UGA website) and printing out a DARS report. This shows what transfers and how it transfers. Your advisor can also help with this, as they have access to it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What should I expect to see on the Application Status Check screen if/when a decision is made? My screen still shows "you are being considered as a transfer student for Fall term". Will this screen show accepted and/or declined information?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anon: The first paragraph will state about your admission decision. Did you get everything in by the deadline? If not, this could be the cause of the issue about hearing a decision.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks DGraves, and no, I didn't have everything in. I had forgotten about a transcript from the first college I attended for one semester and got it in late. Will that eliminate me from being considered for Fall? And if so, how will I know for sure?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anon: If a student is late with materials and we are not able to review them, we will send an email to them at the end of the process to let them know about this issue. I would suggest contacting the primary counselor tomorrow and speak with that person about your file. Let them know the circumstances, and they can then see what the situation is and what can be done.

  45. Hi! I have been accepted and have orientation June 18th. I am an incoming transfer student, and want to change my major from history to finance. How would I be able to do that? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon: Overall, UGA does not allow transfer students to change majors after admission, although there is one partial exception. If the student is in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and wants to change from one major to another within the college (not from A&S to the School of Public and Intl. Affairs), then they can do this during the orientation meeting with A&S. Since both history and all Pre-Business majors (we do not admit directly to Terry College of Business) are in A&S, you just need to speak with your advisor and with the orientation people when you get to orientation.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ok, so then it is possible for me to be able to switch my major at orientation to finance then? Sorry, it's just a little confusing. And then apply to Terry after completing all the requirements?

    ReplyDelete
  48. *and go in as a pre-business major

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anon: At orientation, you would work with the people I mentioned to change your major from history to Pre-Business-Finance (both are within Arts and Sciences, so it is the one exception allowed), and you would then work with your advisor to plan out applying and being admitted to the Terry College of Business at a later date when you meet the requirements.

  50. Do you know when all the decisions will be made, maybe by next week? I am still waiting to hear my decision and I'm positive all my information was turned in on time so I'm not sure as to why I still haven't heard. Thanks for your help!
    Ashley

  51. Anon: We are down to the last 70 or so transfer files, and I hope we will be done before the end of next week. Generally, the reason for not receiving a decision yet is one of three cases; the applicant applied right at the deadline (last in, last out), the applicant has very challenging transcripts (multiple non-GA colleges, or the applicant sent in a transcript in Oct.-Dec. that did not include fall grades (or they did this and then sent in fall grades in April/May).

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was looking at the transfer equivalencies and am confused about one of them. Could you please explain what CBIO3T**L mean? will i get credit or will i have to retake this class?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anon: Review the transfer FAQ, http://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/transfer_faq.html, especially question 8. This should clear things up for you.

  55. just wanted to know when i will recieve my decision letter for spring 2011(transfer student) if I just completed my application yesterday

  56. Anon and Wojo: I could not tell either one of you specifics about when you will receive a decision. I expect that most spring transfer decisions will be out by mid Sept.
