The Big Day!

Later today, we will be opening up the status check so that all final decisions, and I will give you a heads up when it goes live. Before it happens, though, I wanted to let all the followers of this blog know that I appreciate all of the kind words you have written, and I hope that I have answered most of your questions clearly and to the point. I have been in admissions for almost 18 years, but this is my first year writing a blog, and it was a little intimidating at times not knowing how people would respond to my posts. Overall, though, I think it has gone well this year, and I look forward to future posts!

As for decisions, please remember that no matter what the decision is today for you (or your student), life will still move on, freshman year will be great at whatever college you decide to attend, and you will have some amazing experiences over the next four years. Remember to take advantage of all the opportunities that await you in college, from studying in Kenya, joining the Rugby team, or discussing your future over a cup of coffee with your favorite professor.

I will be putting up three posts later today for the three decision groups (admit, deny, wait-list), along with some advice and a place for you to comment. Please remember that I will be moderating the comments, so make sure they do not contain things that would cause them to be deleted.

And lastly, GO DAWGS!

  2. Regardless of the decisions released today, I appreciate all of the due dilligence that goes into reviewing each student. My daughter is hopeful that she will be accepted today but also has a solid plan B, and I hope other families do also.

I know others have expressed their appreciation but I again wanted to let you know how helpful it is to read this blog and cut through all of the rumors that circulate at the local-level. Thank you for putting up with all of the questions from nervous families!!

  5. I agree with hopeful parent. While I hope that my daughter will be accepted, we have a solid B plan also. I appreciate everything you have done with this blog. As a former UGA grad myself, I think I am more nervous than my daughter lol.

  6. Thanks so much for all the information you have given on this blog. We too have a solid plan b but are hopeful for admissions to UGA. Your information has been soooo helpful even when you've had to repeat yourself over and over again. So from this parent to the admissions team, THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO.

  7. Yes GO DAWGS!!!! It's great to see this blog in place. I graduated from the UGA Terry College of Business back in 1981, and I'm hopeful that my son will have the same opportunity (he has a plan B but UGA is his first choice). What a great education awaits those accepted!! You've done a great job bringing in an excellent group of students year after year.

  8. All I have to say is thank you for answering all my questions thorougly, Mr Graves. Although, I have a plan B and I have been admitted into my second choice, my heart stays mostly with UGA. Whatever decision I get, I will move on and pursue an education. Like they say, the name of the school doesn't determine how much you will learn, it's how you pursue that education and use it.

Good luck everyone. I hope whatever happens or what decision you get, you will succeed in life and move on!!!

    GO DAWGS!!!

  10. Just want to say that your blog has been very informative. Didn't discover it until December and wish I had known it was there much earlier. My fault.

This blog is a huge help for parents and students doing research on prospective schools. I am sure this is a lot of work for you, but it is an asset for UGA. Haven't seen another admissions site yet that has a better blog.

  11. One thing I wish you would do is post the re-calculated UGA GPA on our status check. Would be helpful to know...I've tried calculating mine but I don't know what subjects to leave out, etc. Hopefully everything else was strong enough. Thanks DGraves for your blog, no other college that I've applied to has anything like this, and it was incredibly helpful over the past several months. I'm so anxious for the decision!

  12. As a social media consultant, I think you are doing a great job engaging and informing your audience by providing consistent information in one place. Additionally I am sure this blog cuts back on the number of calls and emails to your office.

On a personal note, it's so helpful to have information that impacts my daughter. She is so looking forward to attending UGA. GO Dawgs.
